About 30 years ago Two friends of mine and myself made a hasty exit from a local drinking establishment when several of the regulars took exception to the fact that my one friend won a game of pool and it was going to cost them a pitcher after having won a beer each in the previous games. They were the ones that suggested raising the stakes. Needless to say we did not return.
