Assault Rifles Aren’t the Weapon of Choice for ‘Active Shooters’

A large amount of coverage of gun violence in America focuses on when semi-automatic weapons are used, particularly when brought to bear in mass killings, given their capacity to quickly inflict grievous harm. The intensity of that media klieg light, however, may be disproportionate to how often those firearms are actually used in these bouts of sudden violence, which have been given a name: “active shooter events.”

A study published Tuesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that semi-automatic assault rifles were used in only about 25 percent of such U.S. incidents from 2000 to 2017. The rest of the time, firearms including handguns, rifles and shotguns were the weapon of choice.

Mass killers use automatic or simi-auto weapons when they intend to kill anybody and everybody. Almost always, when a shooter enters with a shotgun or a pistol, they already have specific targets in mind. Their teacher, their boss, the girl who won't go out with them, whomever. They know who they are going to shoot before they start.

The shooter in the game competition in FL shot the guy who beat him and put him out of the competition first. Witnesses reported that he was letting people pass and was searching for specific targets that he had some grudge against. If he intended to kill any random person, he would have likely used an automatic or simi-auto weapon like the shooter in Vegas and the gay nightclub shooter did.

Shooters pick the weapon they need based on what they intend to do.

Roughly 30,000 people killed each year with firearms.  20,000 are suicides. Of the remaining 10,000 only about 1000 are killed with long guns of all types.  The dreaded AR-15 is used roughly 300-350 times. 

Knives kill 4000, fists kill 2500, doctors kill over 60,000 (malpractice, infections). 

It's hard not to come to the conclusion that they really don't care about people's safety, they want to eliminate the weapon most effective against them.  The lengths to which they will lie and distort to accomplish that pretty much proves it.  The Second Amendment is about parity between civilians and their government.  The left ain't havin' none of that.
