Texas Tribune by Patrick Svitek Sept. 4, 2018

The Club for Growth, a national conservative group that recently announced plans for a seven-figure investment in the U.S. Senate race, is launching its opening salvo at Democratic nominee Beto O'Rourke.

Allies of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, are targeting his Democratic opponent, Beto O’Rourke, in a new TV ad over his support on the El Paso City Council for a plan to redevelop downtown El Paso that raised the threat of eminent domain.

The plan never went that far but fueled a contentious chapter in El Paso politics starting over a decade ago. The new TV ad from the Club for Growth — a national conservative group that recently announced a seven-figure offensive in the race — portrays O’Rourke as a puppet of wealthy developers who pushed the project, including his father-in-law, Bill Sanders.

“El Paso’s rich and powerful stay that way by controlling politicians like Beto O’Rourke,” a narrator says in the 30-second spot. “As a councilman, Beto carried water for his wealthy father-in-law, the developer behind a downtown redevelopment scheme, pushing the city to bulldoze an historic Hispanic neighborhood using eminent domain."

The ad goes on to refer to eminent domain as a “government wrecking ball” and ends by tagging O’Rourke as “Beto the Bully.”

New Cruz Web Ad Highlights O’Rourke’s Support of Eminent Domain to Enrich His Family and Displace Low-Income El Pasoans

https://www.tedcruz.org/press-releases/new-cruz-web-ad-highlights-orourkes-support-of-eminent-domain-to-enrich-his-family-and-displace-low-income-el-pasoans/

Today, Ted Cruz for Senate released a new web adhighlighting Congressman Beto O’Rourke’s shady past on the El Paso City Council where he used his power and influence to enrich his family by pushing for the use of the local government’s eminent domain power to take the homes of residents in the historic Segundo Barrio.

The ad highlights the frustration of these local residents and their pleas for then-Councilman O’Rourke to recuse himself from future votes and to end his attempts to take their homes for the financial benefit of his family.

“Congressman O’Rourke’s self-interested votes to utilize eminent domain to condemn low-income homes should be a red flag to all Texans when making their decision this November,” said Cruz spokesman Catherine Frazier. “O’Rourke showed a callous disregard for so many El Pasoans, ignoring their pleas to recuse himself from voting on the project for the sake of enriching his own family. If he wouldn’t listen to his constituents’ concerns then, Texans across the state cannot trust him to listen to them now.”

Full details on O’Rourke’s proposal to condemn homes in El Paso’s Segundo Barrio may be found here. https://www.tedcruz.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Now-and-Then-Ad-MEMO-1.pdf

It's a good thing that Voter ID is in effect. It'll be harder to bus in voters.

I see Cruz is reaching into his ol bag of tricks again, this didn't work on Trump who invented 'eminent domain'.
No government in the 6,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

For the one who invented it, he sure wasn't any good at it.
