  • All deserve a trial if accused
This broke last night, early reports said "not related to terrorism", new detail this morning, "believed to be an Afghan national" did it. What a mess.

Nothing to see here, I'm sure. He's Afghani, but there's absolutely no hint of terrorism to his actions.  *****rollingeyes*****

French police have detained a man who stabbed seven people, injuring four seriously, in an attack on tourists and passers-by in Paris.

The man, wielding a knife and iron bar, struck just before 23:00 (21:00 GMT) by a canal in Paris's 19th district.

People playing pétanque - a French bowling game - threw metal balls at the attacker, and he was overpowered.

The man, said to be Afghan, was soon arrested. The incident is currently not being treated as a terrorist attack. ...

Eyewitness Youssef Najah, 28, said he was walking beside the canal when he saw a man running and holding a knife about 25-30cm (10-11 inches) long.

"There were around 20 people chasing him. They started throwing pétanque balls at him," he said.

"Around four or five balls hit him in the head, but they weren't able to stop him," he added.  ...

... Though the suspect had targeted foreigners, “nothing at this stage suggests a terrorist attack”, a source close to the inquiry added.
This story sure dropped off the radar quickly. I guess they're really, truly convinced an Afghan man wouldn't commit an act of terror.

The eyewitness said the man “seemed to be on drugs.* He seemed to be on something. He definitely didn’t seem normal. He had a blank look… He didn’t say anything. Even when we hit him, he didn’t shout ‘ouch’.”
Oh, well, just another guy with mental illness. Nothing to see here. He didn't even yell praises to Allah, that's how we know.

*According to this news article, officials have determined he was NOT on drugs.
