Ted Cruz attacks O'Rourke for his f-bombs

By Michael Burke - 09/04/18 09:33 AM EDT

Sen. Ted Cruz (R) has opened a new attack on Rep. Beto O'Rouke, ripping the Democratic congressman for his use of the f-word.

In a new 27-second advertisement, Cruz argues that parents should leave their children at home when O'Rouke is around. It shows O’Rourke using the f-word on five different occasions.

“How f---ed up is that?” O’Rourke says in one clip.

“What the f--- are these guys doing?” he asks in another.

Wow. Way to stay relevant Ted. Good thing he is going with Harold Stassen's old ad agency to come up with these timely and effective issues.

Jeeze... Cruz is heads and tails above Beto in every way. I think this line is out of touch with most people. Sure, it may motivate a grandma or two, but these days people accept rudeness and being an ass as part of the political process. Hell, we just got off an election where the candidate on the right dropped F'Bombs* and we were told it was good because 'he isn't being politically correct' and he 'says what is on his mind'.

I suppose there may be people who'll vote for someone because they drop the F bombs but I figure most votes would be cast on the issues in spite of them.

I can't fault Ted for looking for every vote but when running against a milquetoast commie the issues alone should be enough.

The problem is he isn't focusing hardly at all on the issues. From Whataburger jokes to mocking his nickname to the f'bomb ads. Maybe he thinks with the new social media based politics this is the way to go.

Do you think it may be a case of what the media chooses to focus upon?

Cruz is right.  Using the F-bomb in public is crass and indicates a limited vocabulary.

The same guy who thinks yard signs and bumper stickers are useless and that he can get by with having campaign stops just for high dollar donors.

Yep... But watch this one come around and bite him right in the butt, as he is backing a president whose ability to be crass in nearly unrivaled... Good for the goose, after all...

Not if you stick to what's right... That's the problem with sanctioning things that are against principle. Someone else gets to have the high ground.

Its naive to assume he is focusing on this angle without focus group testing it. Could be that between the baptists and the catholic hispanics its a big deal. I do not know.

It would depend a great deal upon how Beto is presenting himself.

Texans do not want their congressmen dropping the F-bomb like a new yorker.  This may put a little patina on the halo.

Don't _ret, _rank.  The ad will work in Texas, as expected, as it should.  (It's not Cruz's only advertising strategy, of course.)

Cruz has to hit hard on the gun issue.  Just about everyone I know owns a gun and sure as heck aren't for giving it up.
