A reminder that we know a lot less than we think we do
By Andrew Thomas

I keep trying to finish a book titled We Have No Idea by Jorge Chan and Daniel Whiteson, but I can’t seem to get over my frustration that there is so much we don’t understand about our existence in this universe.  The authors try to simplify the concepts of quantum physics to laymen like me to an almost silly level.

The fact is that 95% of the universe we live in is composed of “dark” energy and matter that we know is there, but we can’t see it and have no understanding of what it is.  In other words, we don’t understand 95% of a universe that is an infinitesimal part of potentially an infinite number of universes.  The bottom line is that we don’t know what is possible or even probable in our existence.

I'd say the fact that we occupy much less than the 5% of the universe that we understand is pretty remarkable.  Regardless, I'm glad he sold his house, and I don't believe in coincidences.

As you wish @Sanguine .... and with no malice ... I will leave the dark web to you.   :shrug:
I suggest we continue to let @Sanguine apply judgment as to what logically falls into the category. @Right_in_Virginia

Two central themes are involved; namely "Emerging New Media" and "Free Speech & Thought."

It all spills over into Youtube censoring, demotizing the people. It can spill into anti-trust/regulation.

IOW it is "multi-dimensional"

There are literally hundreds, possibly thousands of videos by these key people. I for one, am NOT posting all of them.

Just good examples, here and there. PEACE

Interesting take. I read an article about 20 years ago about dark matter and what the author called "dark energy".
He theorized that there was "matter", "anti-matter" and "Dark matter".

Black hole, dark matter, dark energy are all dog whistle words.  Science is racist!  Hopefully this won't monkey up this discussion thread.

No, you're in good shape. There's a inverse relation between what a person knows and what they think they know.

It's apparent many are embarrassed by anything requiring intellect. Sad.
The Ancient Greeks created/developed these:
* Botany,
* Biology,
* Geometry,
* Medicine,
* Physics.
Their Medieval successors; Catholic Priests who were also Scientists and
centuries later the likes of Copernicus, Galileo, Newton; among dozens;
developed the Laws of Mathematics that validated these sciences.
What have we moderns, who loudly assert we are the greatest, contributed?
Some 150 years ago, Darwin told us that Evolution was the key to
understanding the development/progress of Mankind.
Later, some 100 years yeas ago, Einstein asserted that Relativity explained
the Universe.
What do Evolution and Relativity have in common, long after their introduction?
Both remain unproven Theories which have been increasingly challenged/debunked
by their Scientific Peers.
So much for the we moderns are the greatest malarkey!!!

Absalom, I'm not sure what you mean "Evolution and Relativity...Both remain unproven Theories which have been increasingly challenged/debunked by their Scientific Peers."  Neither of those would fall into that category.

A company Geologist I worked with once asked me If I knew about everything there was to know about an area. I just laughed., and told him, "The more I learn, the less I know. Every answer brings more questions." We got along well.

My final year in Seminary I took a course in Eschatology (Death, Judgement, Heaven, Hell)
The first day of class Father Amico asked me why I took the class. I replied Had questions and wanted answers. He nodded. the last day of class he asked me if i had found the answers i was looking for. I replied yes, but now I have even more questions. Once again he just nodded.

When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.

Sanguine. a respectful demurral.
The great discoveries in science are bound/supported
by Mathematics, for example Newton's 3 Laws of Motion;
among them Force(F) = Mass(M) * acceleration(a).
The same is true for the Laws created by Copernicus,
Kepler, Galileo; among many dozens since the Greeks.
Not so w/Darwin's Evolution and Einstein's Relativity
(excepting his formulation about energy E=mc^2).
Both remain conjecture/speculation which is why
the label, Theory, remains; inviting challenge/dissent.

No, that's not really what theory means.

Of course we don't.  If one doesn't understand the basic terms and methods of science, it is easy to dismiss and/or warp it into the various forms of anti-science so prevalent today.

No. Especially Botany/Biology/Medicine. Examples exist in Egyptian Akkadian, and Sumerian. Math is a bit harder to pin down, but simply looking at construction layout and the relationship between dolmens and the stars is enough to know that megalith builders had access to very advanced mathematics. All predating Greek by a thousand years.

Like I said, developed, yes, created, no.

The Almighty created Adam and Eve, who in turn created Abel and Cain, who
in turn created their children and so on for tens of thousands of millennia.
Intuitively, Man's ideas were gifted from the Almighty; whether in Art or Science.
Assuming the cultures/societies of the Fertile Crescent had notions about these
disciplines; good for them and so what!!!
It was the astonishing wisdom of the Greeks who made these ideas/notions
real and tangible; thereby forming the basis for Western civilization.
Dolmens, Stars, Stonehenge and all the rest may be worthy curiosities. So?
W/o Euclid's Geometry modern structure and therefore cities are not possible

Any high horse or pretentiousness is your projection.  I was merely addressing you as an intellectual equal and a big boy, which I assume you are.

You cherry-picked your definition of "theory".   Another one might be: " : a plausible or scientifically acceptable general principle or body of principles offered to explain phenomena", or, in my words, our best explanation given the currently known facts.
