NFL won't discipline kneelers as anthem protests make preseason return

Trump urges players to 'stand proudly' for national anthem

By Valerie Richardson - The Washington Times - Saturday, August 11, 2018

Professional football is back and so are the take-a-knee protests, but the NFL isn’t planning on disciplining players who refuse to stand during the national anthem—at least for now.

Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch sat on the bench while the anthem played before Friday night’s preseason game, just as he did last year, and Miami Dolphins receivers Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson knelt prior to the Thursday game in Miami.

In a statement, the NFL said it was still engaged in “constructive discussions with the NFL Players Association regarding the anthem and issues of equality and social justice that are of concern to many Americans.”

In May, the NFL announced a policy change requiring players on the sideline before games to stand for the anthem ceremony or remain off the field, but the league backed down a month later after a grievance was filed by the union arguing that it should have been consulted.

I nipped this $hit in the bud in my league.

What good is a policy or rule or regulation if it isn't going to be enforced?  Bunch of wussies at the top of the NFL.

Well, I guess no Steelers for me again this season.  I'm not watching a game where overpaid bums are disrespecting our flag and country.

What other entertainers get to pursue personal political causes while on the job on their employer's dime?

Looking like another boycott year for me.   Didn't miss these bastards last year, I can go another.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

Nobody will ever confuse the NFL with some sort of moral bastion filled with nothing but upstanding citizenry.

Since the NFL "leadership" continues to allow it's workers to openly disrespect this nation and those that have served and sacrificed for this nation ...

... I will continue to spend my entertainment dollars on the NHL.

I certainly won't watch it, especially if a team I like is doing it.

Those Brits don't even play our anthem. A disgrace.

As @Taxcontrol brought up earlier in the NHL Canadians stand for our Anthem when here and Americans stand when they play 'O Cruz' over there.

This is referring to "God Bless America" sounds a lot like "God Save The Queen"? I've always thought this but never heard anyone else remark on it.

Who cares about the NFL,  besides, the English Premier League started this weekend.

High school football starts in a couple weeks, and college hoops starts in about two months. The Texas Rangers are nonentities in my book.

Lately, there's been enough good press coming out about my Zags to divert my attention from the drama known as the Dallas Cowboys. In the past ten days or so, two Zags (Joel Ayayi and Filip Petrusev) made the all tournament team at the FIBA Under 18 tournament in Europe, while Rui Hachimura was one of 25 invitees to the Nike Elite Basketball Academy.

You can avoid reality, but you cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality.
