Critique comes as social-media representatives appear before House committee

At a private meeting late last week, some publishing executives criticized Facebook Inc. for being overly accommodating to conservative outlets, days before social-media executives are to appear on Capitol Hill to discuss how content is displayed on their sites.

Executives from Facebook FB, +0.16%  , Twitter Inc. TWTR, -0.03%   and YouTube are scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. Facebook in particular has come under sustained criticism for how it mediates political discourse on its platform, and the social-media giant has hosted a number of meetings in recent weeks with various stakeholders to address the issue.
