That's new.
The weather just said that it is 90 degress, but it feels like 99. That is kind of a big difference. There must be no wind.

And, humid.  Quite humid.

It's amusing to see all the hysteria (not here,  the media) over  this weather.  How the heck did people survive pre-air conditioning?  But they did! I'm sweating like crazy, but drinking water by the gallon. We'll be fine. This is supposed to break in a couple days.

@mountaineer

My local news leads off with it every night with instructions on how to stay safe in the heat.  One of those tips—“If you’re outside and you’re feeling too hot, find some shade and get in it.”

People need to be told this?

I hate summer. My air conditioning is barely functioning so I have a fan. It’s still over 80 in the apartment

I haven’t slept more than 2 hours a night since this heat wave started. I can’t wait for the temps to go down to 60 again.

Only 80?  That's nothing.   I keep mine between 83 and 85 during the day....and hibernate in the master bedroom where the big tv, computer and window AC is.  I do the same in winter, keeping the rest of the house pretty chilly, but use a portable heater.  Otherwise, my electric bills would hover around $250-300/month.

I fear my bill will be about that this month.  Around 100 every day.  And, muggy.

Yea, I know what you are saying but that is a common fallacy. People actually did not survive before air conditioning and heating and running water. A lot of them died. But back then it was common for a mother to give birth to 10 or even 12 kids. So losing a few of them was not such a big deal.

I don't know which is more pathetic, the newscaster that believe they are providing a public service, or the folks that probably actually need to be told this.

Up here in the upper Midwest just about everybody had a basement  i.e. poor man's air-conditioning. We didn't get a lot of super hot days, but I remember spending some hot days in the summer down there.  A little damp but nice and cool.

I read an article years ago on how there was a sizeable number of workers that did not air condition their homes so that their bodies wouldn't have to transition from the coolness at home to the heat at work.

Alas, we have an abundance of people in this country who are totally  lacking in common sense.  It's why your hair dryer has a warning not to use it when you are in the shower or in the tub.  Some imbecile tried to dry his hair in the shower, was electrocuted and his estate  successfully sued the dryer's manufacturer because the company didn't warn him about the dangers of using an electrical appliance on, at or near water.  You and I know better, but far too many do not.  They need someone to tell them how to breathe.  Same with adverse weather conditions like this heat wave.  People die because they don't know what to do.

Lots of rain in the Gulf States today. FL, LA, TX, and like you said, it is needed for two reasons. Rain is good to refill the reservoirs, and the lower temperatures gives everyone a break from 100+.

Still raining here north of you, @corbe.  And, in the low 70's.  Feels wonderful.

I'm sitting here trying to come up with a response but I'm too gobsmacked by the hair dryer in the shower.
