Harris County releases Hurricane Harvey after-action report

After months of work, Harris County officials this week released its Hurricane Harvey After Action Report, which attempted to assess how the county responded to the storm and what it could do so better in future disasters.

The 56 page report -- which sought input from employees or volunteers from more than 40 public safety agencies, along with private and non-profits organizations between November 13, 2017 to
January 12, 2018 -- credited agencies for positioning resources before the storm so agencies could deploy quickly as the storm struck and after it passed, and the county's efforts to connect civilians who wanted to help with first responders who needed boats or other assistance.

It also touted how the county set up a mammoth shelter at NRG Stadium that took care of as many as 74,000 people. But it also noted that the historic storm overwhelmed the county's radio systems, and pointed out that while many county employees helped make water rescues, they had not had the proper training to do so...
