Labeling it “the most unbelievable scandal in the history of this country,” former US attorney Joe DiGenova believes the effort to frame President Trump in a counterintelligence investigation was led by one man – Obama CIA Director, John Brennan.

To be sure, the overall operation involved many top operatives according to DiGenova.

“What you have here is a criminal plot by senior people: John Brennan, James Comey, James Clapper, senior Department of Justice officials to suborn the presidency of the United States through the use of false evidence,” he charged.

For the past 24 hours, a number of Republican lawmakers have been suggesting that a months-old text message between two FBI officials reveals a "secret society" of federal law enforcement officials clandestinely plotting against President Donald Trump.

Lawmakers have refused to publicly release the full text message, sent the day after Trump won the 2016 presidential election. But ABC News has obtained a copy of the one message that Republicans appear to be citing, and it's unclear if the message's reference to a “secret society” may have been made in jest.

"Are you even going to give out your calendars? Seems kind of depressing. Maybe it should just be the first meeting of the secret society," FBI lawyer Lisa Page wrote to senior FBI agent Peter Strzok, who was working on the FBI’s probe of Russian meddling in the presidential election and would later join Page for a brief period on Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team.

That text stands alone in the series of messages obtained by ABC News – with no apparent tie to other messages sent before or after it.

I'm beginning to think that the 'secret society' and the 'backup plan' were both very real things constructed, planned, and implemented, by the FBI. Mueller was planned before the election was cast. Just in case.

Yeah.   Had a friend of mine tell me over the phone last nite that Trump is draining the swamp.  Had to ask her... who has he drained?  What has he done?   All she could offer up is that the swamp dwellers are exposing themselves.  No actual draining, IOW.  It's not a small distinction or correction.....exposure vs. draining.

Late changes to the Freedom Act caused many original backers to vote against the bill, which also was worded in a way that would ban resumed mass collection of Americans' email metadata, which was ended in 2011. The run-up to a final vote on the bill elicited confusing expressions of support, including from former CIA acting Director Michael Morell, who endorsed the law and resumed mass collection of email metadata.

Wyden, who before Snowden's disclosures elicited a factually incorrect claim from Director of National Intelligence James Clapper about mass domestic collection, pressed Pompeo for his vision of what would not be entered into the "giant database."

"Today, that would be – in most instances, what you referred to, that would be unlawful under current law," Pompeo said. "As the director of the CIA, you have my assurance we will not engage in unlawful activity."
