A pack of dogs mauled and killed a woman in Oklahoma last week, prompting police to ponder criminal charges in her death.

Tracy Garcia, 52, was near her home on the outskirts of Ardmore in the state's southern end when the seven dogs attacked her May 10.

The Associated Press reports law enforcement shot one dog and euthanized the rest at an animal shelter. Garcia, KTEN reports, later died from her injuries.

How many of them were there? Terriers can be mean, but they're quite small. You'd need a huge pack to take down a human!

Gotta be careful with those wiener dogs. They can get mean.

This is a weird story. There had to be something wrong with the woman for her to be taken out by tiny dogs, no matter how many of them there were. Why didn't she simply go inside? Did they stop her somehow? How could they?

It said they were dachshund-mix, and "no more than 40 pounds".  That's a big dachshund, if so.

Don't underestimate a Doxie.  They have a powerful upper body and jaws.  They were originally bred to enter a (European) badger hole to extricate and even kill the badger.  Yeah, tough little buggers if need be.  If they got into a pack frenzy...

Edited to add "European".  Their badgers are smaller (of course they are).

Breed standard for the dachshund is up to 32 lbs.

Really?, Wow my beagles are only in the 18 to 22 lbs range.
Dachshunds look a bit like shorter Beagles...

There are two classifications for Beagles.  There's under 13" (at the shoulder) and there's 13" to 15" (again at the shoulder).  The 13" to 15" are to be 20 to 30 lbs per the breed standard.

I have always detested the doxie breed.  When I was 6, I was playing in the backyard with a group of other kids and the neighbor's doxie bit me on the cheek; unprovoked.  I was petrified of small dogs for a long time and to this day prefer real dogs and not the whiny little puff balls that are nothing more than an annoyance.  I am particularly fond of the Doberman Pinscher breed or the Rhodesian Ridgeback breed.

   I always classified small breeds as mere charm bracelets or some such, until I would up with a Mini Dachshund, my Penny. 
   They are so Loyal and hate kids.

We had a 10" beagle.  She looked like a pup and loved our children and was protective of them.  She was one of the best dogs we ever lived with.

Having familiarity with both breeds...I would hazard to guess that the Dobe wants protection from the little guy. :laugh:
