I saw Lyle Lovett and his large band at the Sugar Land Smart Financial Center last night.
Nice venue, holds 6,500 people, and only 5 miles from my house.

He played "Ain't no more cane on the Brazos" which was quite fitting, considering that they found a mass grave halfway between my home and the Center, which used to be prison property.
If you heard about the story, these were prisoners who most likely died in the cane fields, about 130-140 years ago.

Anyway his encore was "Church", which is one of my favorites.

I saw him a few winters ago in Gruene Hall.  He is a great performer.  That story about prison labor was posted here a while back, interesting history. @GrouchoTex

Lyle Lovette is ALWAYS worth the price of admission.

One of my favorites.

I read that. I posted there as well.
It turns out that this site where they found the mass grave is behind an H-E-B we shop at regularly.

That is a show I'd definitely want to see, even at Gruene Hall (no AC) in the Texas Summer. @sneakypete

Though I've seen him in Houston, years ago, I fear John Prine is not long for this world.

@corbe

Funny story about the acoustic show:

My wife worked for a pretty well known local custom picture frame shop in town at the time.
Houston opened a new venue in 2002, the Hobby Center for the  Performing Arts.
Nice Place.
She had framed some things for one of the managers there and she gave her free tickets.

We drove downtown, in her car, as my a/c was out at the time.
About 2 blocks from the place, smoke starts pouring out from under the hood.
We manage to get into the parking garage and pull into a parking space.
Well, we had a blown engine.
We had to tow the car back home, 25 miles to Sugar Land, $135.00 for that.
All-in-all, the free show cost $1900.00

Worth it?

Well, yeah......

George Jones was born in TX, you don't post his music. Honestly, I probably like his music more than about anyone from there.

I've been listening and watching all the songs you post, from

GJ wrote quite a few good songs himself. I guess he wrote this one and I know of another I really like. Maybe I will post it in the week to come.

Yes, many people sing this, this is special, imho.  And Willie sang it, I do like Jones' version.

Sorry, I don't mean to steal your thunder, but when I read your post, I couldn't wait to hear it. I can't tell you the last time I heard "Sugar Bee" or even thought about it. I used to have that record, but as was often the case in those days, I probably took my 45s to a party in their little carrier and left it behind.

I love that swamp pop sound and wonder if it was regional or popular throughout the country. Maybe some of you experts on this thread can address that.

Yesterday was the 60th anniversary of Miles Davis landmark album "Kind of Blue".
Definitely one of my lost-on-a-desert-island recordings.
One of the greatest recordings of all time.
Most of it recorded in one take.
It took only 2 days to record it.
