Classy act, naming a team for the song by WC Handy, St. Louis Blues, versus names like As, Phillies, Mets for some other sports.
The only other musical name I can think of in sports is the Utah (born the New Orleans) Jazz.
MLB has:
* Three teams named after mammals. (The Royals are one; the name came from the annual Royal Livestock Show. The others: the Cubs, the Tigers.)
* One named for a reptile. (The Diamondbacks.)
* Two named for sea creatures. (The Marlins, the Rays.)
* Three named for birds. (The Cardinals, the Orioles, the Blue Jays.)
* One for a heavenly body. (The Angels.)
* One after geography. (The Rockies.)
* One for cities, sort of. (The Twins.)
* Three for clothing. (The Reds, the Red Sox, the White Sox.)
* Fifteen for people of assorted designation, profession, or activity. (The Astros, the Athletics, the Braves, the Brewers, the Dodgers, the Giants, the Indians, the Mariners, the Mets, the Nationals, the Padres, the Phillies, the Pirates, the Rangers, the Yankees.)
The Athletics may have the only logo unrelated to their nickname, which sprang from the ancient Athletic Baseball Club of 1800s Philadelphia---in 1902, New York Giants manager John McGraw took a gander at the then-aging A's and said their owner/manager Connie Mack had a white elephant on his hands. In cheerful indignation, the team adopted a white elephant (sometimes climbing a ladder to form the letter A) as its logo. The elephant still lives:
