Dr. John and Johnny Winter:

Error 404 (Not Found)!!1

DVD of Winter with Dr. John as well. Not sure if it is this above.
https://www.amazon.com/Winter-Johnny-Dr-John-Sweden/dp/B01ARYG0H0

Dr. John was an expert on the Big Easy and its rich musical culture and history, I see his name come up when I've read a few books.  Some piano playing in above video clip.  I'm sure there is much more of this.

In memory of Dr. John . . . he made a lot of good music over all those years, but for me he never did it better than when he took his first crack as a recording artist in his own right, using some leftover studio time from a Sonny & Cher session he and his fellows played on in 1968 . . .

Being from Nawlins I've always loved Leon's style more than Dr. John, though both were gifted musicians.

Since the St. Louis Blues won their first-ever Stanley Cup, even though I despise hockey, I pulled out the "St. Louis Blues" I love most . . . on this album . . .

Error 404 (Not Found)!!1

I never thought I'd live to hear my blues played like this. Truly wonderful! Truly wonderful! Nobody could have done it but my boy Louis!---W.C. Handy, who attended the album sessions.

Classy act, naming a team for the song by WC Handy, St. Louis Blues, versus names like As, Phillies, Mets for some other sports.

The only other musical name I can think of in sports is the Utah (born the New Orleans) Jazz.

MLB has:

* Three teams named after mammals. (The Royals are one; the name came from the annual Royal Livestock Show. The others: the Cubs, the Tigers.)
* One named for a reptile. (The Diamondbacks.)
* Two named for sea creatures. (The Marlins, the Rays.)
* Three named for birds. (The Cardinals, the Orioles, the Blue Jays.)
* One for a heavenly body. (The Angels.)
* One after geography. (The Rockies.)
* One for cities, sort of. (The Twins.)
* Three for clothing. (The Reds, the Red Sox, the White Sox.)
* Fifteen for people of assorted designation, profession, or activity. (The Astros, the Athletics, the Braves, the Brewers, the Dodgers, the Giants, the Indians, the Mariners, the Mets, the Nationals, the Padres, the Phillies, the Pirates, the Rangers, the Yankees.)

The Athletics may have the only logo unrelated to their nickname, which sprang from the ancient Athletic Baseball Club of 1800s Philadelphia---in 1902, New York Giants manager John McGraw took a gander at the then-aging A's and said their owner/manager Connie Mack had a white elephant on his hands. In cheerful indignation, the team adopted a white elephant (sometimes climbing a ladder to form the letter A) as its logo. The elephant still lives:

(They wear this cap in batting practise this season after introducing it for spring training.)

I'm assuming you are referring solely to the major leagues. AAA baseball has the long-running Nashville Sounds, named of course after the Music Row-led country pop styling of the early 1960s. Memphis used to have the Memphis Blues.

The WNBA has the Cleveland Rockers. Arena football has the Philadelphia Soul.

I was indeed thinking of major league sports.

AAA baseball has the long-running Nashville Sounds, named of course after the Music Row-led country pop styling of the early 1960s. Memphis used to have the Memphis Blues.

The WNBA has the Cleveland Rockers. Arena football has the Philadelphia Soul.
There are also the Lowell Spinners (if you have to ask . . .), the Reno Aces (maybe a stretch unless you remember the Four Aces), and the Rocky Mountain Vibes (I've taken up the vibes as a second instrument, and since I began in earnest in January I've improved---now, I'm merely terrible), and the bluesman in me can't resist throwing in the Williamsport Crosscutters . . .

Error 404 (Not Found)!!1

All things considered I'd love to see even more musical names for minor league baseball teams.

Away with the Tulsa Drillers and in with the Tulsa Time. (RIP, J.J. Cale.) Be gone, Tri-City Dust Devils (does a team sort-of named for a vacuum cleaner suck?) and come on down, Tri-City Broomdusters. (Hello, Elmore James!) The Memphis Redbirds are all well and good but how about the Memphis Blues? (Again, if you have to ask . . . ) Happy flight, Arkansas Travelers and you are clear to land, Arkansas Wolves. (Howlin', that is!) Lay down thy tomahawks, Mississippi Braves; hello, Mississippi Candymen. (For Mississippi John Hurt's "Candy Man Blues," of course!)

It being Flag Day and all, I dug up this old gem, led by the criminally underrated Tommy Cash, along with his brother Johnny, and songwriting legend Tom T. Hall. (With a little help from George Jones.)

Actually, another Tom, Tom Jones turned 79 on June 7th... and come the end of June, June 28th, will be back in Israel:
https://www.jpost.com/Israel-News/Culture/For-Tom-Jones-its-not-unusual-to-return-to-Israel-592614

2014 in Tel Aviv, recordings can be hit and miss but the performer looks on:

Apparently, there is a singer over there who is popular singing Tom Jones songs... I think he does an outstanding job...

--------------------

Fun Latin number, Las Chicas del Can sing "Juana La Cubana" with no further comment except I do think it is off a Venezuelan channel, "V" in the upper left-hand corner, the refrain is "Baile como Juana la Cubana", so to dance like Juana, dance song.

Per wikipedia, from the Dominican Republic and a Merengue band....
