'Concerned' Evangelicals Plan To Meet With Trump As Sex Scandals Swirl

As allegations continue to swirl about the president and a payout to a porn star to cover up a sexual encounter, evangelical leaders are organizing a sit-down with President Trump in June, four sources with knowledge of the planned meeting tell NPR.

"We're very concerned" about the allegations, said a leader of a faith-based ministry. The leader is involved in hosting the gathering, which organizers are aiming to take place June 19 at Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. The source said the combination of the Stormy Daniels sex-scandal allegations and Trump's continued reputation for divisive rhetoric could suppress evangelical turnout in the November midterm elections.

"It is a concern of ours that 2018 could be very detrimental to some of the other issues that we hold dear," like preserving religious liberty and restricting abortion rights, the source noted. The source, like the others with knowledge of the event, spoke to NPR on the condition of anonymity so as to not jeopardize the meeting.

Ralph Reed, chairman of the Faith and Freedom Coalition, also said it's "highly dubious" that the allegations will substantially erode support for the president or suppress midterm turnout.

Reed said he will attend the meeting with the president if the planning moves forward. Given how organized and energized Democrats are this year, he said it's important for evangelical leaders to rally their base.

"If these folks don't turn out in record numbers in 2018," Reed said, "it's gonna be a long night for Republicans."

Un-Cuck yourselves evangelicals.

Quote
Johnnie Moore, an informal evangelical adviser to Trump, downplayed the discussions, calling them "entirely conceptual" at this stage.
Quote
Moore noted that many conservative Christians are pleased with Trump's policy record so far and are eager to talk about "what's next" for their policy priorities.

"What I think will happen if there is a meeting and he participates," Moore said, "I think there will be one heck of a celebration."

Will there be strippers?

I repeat......... the "Evangelical" church in America (what was left of it) sealed its doom when its "leaders" jumped on board with Donald Trump and excused his inexcusable past (and present) lack of character.

If you want Evangelicalism, go to China to see the Church at work under severe persecution.

Lying in bed with political dogs gets you spiritual fleas.
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

What's the BFD?  He's already been given a mulligan for his "personal behavior".  Can we move on now?

Trump merely says:

"I didn't do this stuff, but if I did, I'm a different man today."

Next question.

(It doesn't take Karl Rove, or James Carville to figure it out)

And since the Goode Pope says there is no Hell to worry over, things get even better going forward, into the present and future.

Think positively. The son of a Midwestern post man may be your future option.

Did you see this @musiclady @truth_seeker says President Trump can just confess "I didn't do it, but if I did..." to a room full of Christians.  Simple and it fits on a bumpersticker.  Are you ready to come back to your old party?  Convinced of their superior argument?

Me neither.  The message I get is, "I had no respect for your faith from the beginning, but what choice have you got?"

You go right ahead and twist my remarks, however it suits you.

The difference is I am discussing a political office, President. And I can tell the difference between that and a pastor.

FDR's mistress, Ike's overseas mistress, JFK's many mistresses, Clinton's many daliences prove that most Americans including evangelicals can tell the difference too.

I would prefer the entire subject matter be private as it was thru JFK's time. But it isn't now, and the dem media will be sure to keep it public with plenty of help other self-appointed keepers of the nation's morality.

The difference here, (not that you don't see it already), is that the Evangelical church OPPOSED previous dalliances (at least the ones we knew about).

There is now only a remnant of Believers who actually stand for what the Bible clearly says.  These so -called "leaders" have abdicated the role that they had just a few short years ago with this "we're not electing a pastor" garbage.

Would you prefer that Evangelicals would have said that Clinton's "dalliances" were not a big deal?

I wouldn't.  Because, they actually were a big deal.

Just like Trump's are.

I'm afraid the die is cast, @Once-Ler.

There is no party that a Conservative Christ-follower can come back to.

We were never the center of the Republican party....... always a minority....... but at least we were welcomed and respected in that party.

No more.

Oh, well............ at least I now have more time on my hands to do things other than political activism.

We are a minority, (aliens even,) in the world and always will be and that's just fine!  I find what is happening in this era of American history a fine reminder that we are not citizens of this world and never will be.  That is just fine too. The church needs to get her priorities back in line.

So why all the raised fists at the GOP?

Because I think somewhere in Leviticus Jesus says "Breed Hate".

I can't speak for anyone else but I try not to single out the GOP.  I see hypocrisy, and lies in every quarter.  I guess it's always been that way but I was gullible in the past.

And you've adopted that as your life verse?

Edited to add that I find it most amusing that Frank has become the defender of all things GOP.

Can't stop laughing.

A lot of us were.

At least the GOP used to give lip service to morality and ethical standards.

Now neither party does even that.

Understanding TBR's policy that Politics raises the level of discourse to an almost unmanageable point and Religion should be avoided just as fire on gasoline, I was hesitant to post this.

I'm still stuck on "Leviticus Jesus", shaking his head with a disapproving scowl on his face, slapping a ruler against his palm.  Someone's about to get a spanking.
Micah 6:8  "...what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?"

Disclaimer: I am a liberal, progressive, feminist, here because I like talking to you all.  We're all this together.
