Great version of the classic "Hushabye" by Camera Obscura:

Pretty much sounds like a live recording at the Radio Station, they could really polish this up, make it a full song.... this is only 1:44 long.

All Music Welcomed!

https://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays/march/13
http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/born_today

Mike Stoller of the renown songwriting team Lieber-Stoller was born on this day making an important contribution to pop.  Though, it is decades ago he helped pen a number of songs and one can see them here:

Lieber-Stoller wrote Hound Dog which Elvis of course, had a big hit with, they also wrote a few other Elvis numbers like "King Creole", which was the name of an Elvis movie as well:

Stoller co-wrote "Jackson" with Bill Edd Wheeler. The song sung by Johnny Cash and June Carter.

And "Stand By Me" which Ben E. King sang, so really big hits.

Sammy Kaye was born, Sammy Kaye and his orchestra, "Swing and Sway":

Neil Sedaka, wrote "Where the Boys are" which was a big hit for Connie Francis and of course, Neil Sedake had a number of other hits:

"Breaking Up Is Hard To Do":

And Connie Francis, "Where The Boys Are":

It's Jan Howard's birthday, she did a nice duet, I forget now with who but she is famous for writing the song "My Son" for her son in the service and she lost her son in Vietnam.

Greg Norton of Husker Du, "Pink Turns To Gray":

Steve Hill! There's a few Steve Hills on youtube, this may well be the country artist with "That old gate":

And here is rocker Steve Hill, he's really a one man band doing "Rollin' and Tumblin""Stop Breaking Down" and "Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On", yes, he plays a bit on drums while playing the guitar:

Not in perfect chronological order, but commencing, a few birthdays,

Born on this date in history,  Phil Phillips (Baptiste), author of "Sea of Love"... what an alltime classic that is, I like Marty Wylde's version out of the UK, the Honeydrippers is okay, there's even a version for the Al Pacino movie "Sea of Love", modern... but Phil's is the best, I believe he wrote it too:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Phillips
"Sea of Love":

"Don't Leave Me":

Les Baxter was born, performer of such hits as,
Tiki lounge music, "The Quiet Village":
! No longer available
Also, recognizable to many, "The Poor People Of Paris":

He and Martin Denny were pioneers of this style of music.  Generally called "lounge music" nowadays.

Quincy Jones Jr., Quincy Delight Jones Jr. (born March 14, 1933) is an American music impresario, musical arranger, record producer, and film composer
"Exodus":

American saxophonist Walter Parazaider with Chicago, okay, another musician from that band...and a popular one at that with "Color My World":

Shirley Scott, "Queen of the Organ" with Stanley Turrentine, "Soul Shoutin'"

James O'Rourke of John Fred and his playboy band, youtube actually has some early songs by this band but everyone basically knows "Judy in Disguise":

Jim Pons of the Turtles, "Happy Together":

Also, per one of the links above, with the Mothers of Invention, "Billy the Mountain Goes To Stoneybrook":

Definitely, not to be missed, Michael Martin Murphy was born on this day as well, really Cowboy, Southwestern type of music.
Michael Murphy with "Wildfire":

"Geronimo's Cadillac":

The Castells out of Santa Rosa California, cerca 1960, this is lovely if one can hear it on a good sound system....someone in that French music forum I go to from time talked about it, "Petits Yeux Tristes", Little Sad Eyes and the video shows an actress who was named Helen Twelvetrees, famous for her eyes.

Castells - Little Sad Eyes

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helen_Twelvetrees

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Castells

I get how the wikipedia article says they were kind of a mix of college harmony, doo wop, I think they said some of their stuff was even jazzy.

Remember, and Merle was usually right, except when he wasn't being a card-shark, which I think one can probably find references to on the web.

I Take a Lot of Pride in What I Am
Merle Haggard

Things I learned in a hobo jungle
Were things they never taught me in a class room
Like where to find a hand out
While bummin' through Chicago in the afternoon

Hey, I'm not braggin' or complainin'
I'm just talkin' to myself man-to-man
This ol' mental fat I'm chewin' didn't take a lotta doin'
But I take a lot of pride in what I am

All Music Is Welcomed!

http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/born_today   https://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays.php

A few birthdays today,

Fred Neil , folk singer, songwriter of "Everyone's Talkin'":
! No longer available
The version we usually hear is sung by Harry Nilson.
Fred Neil singing with Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell, "The Dolphins":
! No longer available

It's Jerry Jeff Walker's  birthday, songwriter, known for "Mr. Bojangles":
! No longer available
That's quite a song really.
He wrote some song I like a lot and didn't know he wrote, I can't remember it now. He also sings a somewhat standard of your more "progressive" country music if that can be said, country rock, etc., "Navajo Rug", that's pretty good if one has never heard it before.
! No longer available
Ian Tyson of Ian and Sylvia sings this too.

Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel was born on this day, "Miles and Miles of Texas", really, not one of the first songs you think of that they performed, probably originally from the Bob Wills era, from their early albums:
! No longer available

Jimmy Nail of the UK, "Ain't No Doubt", I doubt he is that well known in the USA.
! No longer available

Nancy Wilson of Heart, as time goes on, they are looked at as being way up there.
"Top 10 Heart Songs":
! No longer available

Stan Thorn, singer, Shenandoah, "Two Dozen Roses":
! No longer available

And lastly, Patty Griffin singing "Irish Boy", Saint Patrick's Day around the corner:

Some dates coming in late from the Modesto California's data bank on country and western, "hillbilly" music shows the notable artist, Buddy Starcher was born on this day. They don't make these kinds of records nowadays, at least, not much...some are sort of editorials, patriotic narratives and I'm sure the catalog for his career has much more.  A lot of us know about Tom T. Hall, great songwriter, he even has some similar types of songs in his repertoire. Buddy Starcher basically belonged to a larger musical group "The Starcher family"and I think they have a farm out in West Virginia.

"History Repeats Itself" per the JFK/Lincoln comparison:

People probably have not heard of this guy... one of his songs was posted before, "Sniper's Hill" on the War on Vietnam, really pretty good...great female vocal accompaniment:

At youtube, the Vietnam War Song Project , songs from all perspectives.

Amazingly,  another birthday per that website out West, Shirley Collie, "who is that?", I guess one would mainly note her for being Willie Nelson's 2nd wife.  At least, the wikipedia picture has her looking a lot like Patsy Cline, I think I can say.

Another artist to remember to listen to more:

Often I can't find info on these artists; but sometimes and it's worth it.

Another gem, didn't chart it sounds like they are saying, I know the girl is known for her single in the 2nd video, won't make the most recognizable artists list.

Donna Lynn - True Blue (pop from 1965)

Maybe she hailed from the United Kingdom or Australia where one comment says she was known.  That first song is awesome.

Well, if we are already listing some singers born on 18 March, the great Charley Pride was born on that day in history:

Born in Mississippi, Charley still tours, he is very popular in Canada, there is some stat like "after Hank Williams (or Merle or others),  among American country artists, he is the best selling country artist in Canada" and he has a great voice.  We've posted some of his songs... one of his best-sellers, "Kiss An Angel Good-Mornin'" is real pop country, I don't care for much at all but the rest is good.

'Mississippi Cotton-Picking Delta Town':

'Burgers and Fries' (and cherry pies):

A restaurant in Midland called themselves that, looks like business dropped and they closed, boom or bust, I don't care how often they say it...seemed kind of unsteady...
"Burgers and fires and cherry pies it was simple and good back then..", so the song has a bit of sentimental value although, I can see how one can say that's not necessarily the best country.  It was part of the '50s nostalgia craze of the '70s I'd bet, check Ronnie Milsap's "Lost in the '50s" for more.

'Roll On Mississippi'

Charley on tour, he is finishing the Canadian dates currently and then, will go into the US. One can see his schedule here: http://www.charleypride.com/about/tour
