Question of the Day: What Three Guns for Home Defense?
« on: February 02, 2018, 02:22:51 pm »
Yesterday, former Taran Tactical spokesmodel Rochelle Hathaway lost her job after telling Glamour magazine that Americans don’t need more than three guns to defend their home. Which is, let’s face it, a matter of opinion. And debate. What’s not up for debate is the absurdity of Ms. Hathaway’s statement that it would be OK by her if Uncle Sam enforced a three-gun-limit on Americans exercising their natural, civil and Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms.

Ms. Hathway also asserted that Americans have no need for semi-automatic firearms. So I guess her idea of three acceptable home defense firearms would be a revolver, a shotgun and a bolt action rifle.

What’s yours? Be specific: firearm type, manufacturer, caliber, accessories (lights, lasers, etc.). Price no object, but no NFA items and nothing crew-served.

I'd think all you'd need is two guns - one for the right hand, one for the left.

@skeeter

I have owned one for probably thirty years and shot it a LOT.  It still functions perfectly and is just as accurate as it was on day one.  The only mod to mine is replacing the factory grips with a Hogue wraparound.

Long sight plane, excellent factory sights, and excellent craftsmanship throughout would be my direct answer to your question.

They are MUCH more expensive now than they were when I acquired mine even accounting for inflation.

A double action  revolver is a semi-auto  88888cool

revolver, semi-auto shotgun with a magazine extender, semi-auto rifle with a large capacity magazine.

Bolt action 30 06 for when you need to reach out a touch someone. I like a 22 mag bolt action for the same reason. But where I live one would the hard pressed to get a line of sight longer that a couple hundred yards.

@Bigun

What is it about the CZ 75 that has everyone wanting one?

For the longest time it was the best kept secret in the Czech Republic.  They made a great 9mm pistol but couldn't get the patents on it because of the Russians IIRC...so an Italian gun maker Tanfoglio started making them and the rest is history.

Bottom line it's a well made straight shooting hi capacity 9mm pistol.

There is a polymer version of the CZ 75 made by EAA that can be found for $250 new.

If the P320 hadn't come out when it did I'd have gotten that instead.

@txradioguy

I don't have a hand weapon with a slide such as a 9mm, because I can't pull back the slide.  That said, I have more weapons than the average bear, including the other two you mention, however the shot gun is a Remington.  The govn. has no business knowing what I have and if they could limit what we have that would mean they would know exactly what we have and would eventually take those away from us.

I am old enough to know a time when government was hardly thought of, when we actually were independent and could live our lives the way we want.

Here is how we lose our independence:  When law makers are elected, they think they have to pass laws to show the public they are doing their job so they get reelected, so they make new laws. These laws stack up more and more over time, but it still doesn't stop - there are never enough laws as they keep passing them to get reelected.  It will never stop.

Deferring to  my somewhat limited experience in this matter, both on the sending and receiving end upon rare occasion, the round really does not matter, as the 'cha-chink' is where any argument normally ends.  :shrug:

@Bigun

The LGS I use in Louisville had the EAA Witness CZ clone for $250.

RK Guns has it for $10 more in their online store.

IF you ever had to actually use it, the 00 spreads out too much but with the BBs no one will be testifying against you in court.

True.  I could have bought to of the EAA pistols for what I got my 320 for.  But the desire to own the civilian model of the new Army pistol won out.
