Rock legend Eric Clapton has revealed that he is going deaf. In a recent interview on BBC Radio 2’s “Steve Wright in the Afternoon,” the award-winning guitarist spoke about how both his hearing loss and tinnitus — a hearing disorder that can cause high-pitched ringing in the ears — are affecting his career.

“I mean, I’m going deaf, I’ve got tinnitus, my hands just about work,” he said. “I mean, I’m hoping that people will come along and see me just because, or maybe more than because I’m a curiosity. I know that is part of it. It’s amazing to myself that I’m still here.”

Clean and sober around 30 years. Lives a good amount of the time, in Ohio where his wife comes from.

Too bad he is declining physically. I heard a couple of years ago, he had neuropathy in his feet--or something like that.

Love Clapton, but I have been living and dealing with tinnitus for years due to my service in the military...it's been well and long known that certain levels of noise are going to cause this problem.

Wish him the best in learning to deal with it...no known cure at this time.

I have had tinnitus since 1969 and two days on the range at Fort Ord, two ears worth. Hearing loss, too.

I wished I was deaf after I heard that acoustic version of Layla.
