TRENTON -

Former Gov. Brendan Byrne died Thursday at 93, according to a statement from Gov. Chris Christie’s Office.

"It is with great sadness that I inform all New Jerseyans that Governor Brendan T. Byrne has died today,” Christie said in a statement.

Byrne served two terms as New Jersey’s 47th governor from 1974 until 1982. He also was deputy attorney general and Essex County prosecutor.
