Bob Bogle, guitar, Ventures with 'Walk Don't Run'.
! No longer available

Raymond Phillips of the Nashville Teens with 'Tobacco Road'.
! No longer available
Written by John D. Loudermilk.

Ronnie Milsap with "Almost like a song", yesterday I saw an infomercial of songs performed at the CMA, Country Music Awards and the CDs have this song. I might have picked one of his others like  "Smokey Mountain Rain". He's worth a listen if one cares to check into his music more.
! No longer available

Jim Stafford with his top 40 hit, "Spiders and Snakes" during what rightfully is called the '70s pop music explosion, it seems there are a ton of songs from that era and artists that put out some very good songs. And maybe even 'novelty' type of songs.

A belated happy birthday to Alpha Blondy if he was missed on the New Year's day posting. He hails from Ivory Coast I believe, so African-type of reggae. Some of his songs are in French as well, his first language.

With 'Bloodshed in Africa'.

Sort of sophisticated and profound from what I've heard.

Trivia about the Bonzo Dog (Doo-Dah) Band, who mashed up British music hall, rock, trad jazz, and other arcane styles to become
what the Mothers of Invention were too pedantic to remain: funny as hell music satirists (who weren't anywhere near as condescending
or even contemptuous as Frank Zappa too often could be):

* They played (well, mimed to) this number (which gave a turn-of-this-century rock band their name) during the stripper-in-the-tent segment of the Beatles' ill-fated television film Magical Mystery Tour; trumpeter/songwriter Vivian Stanshall sang the ersatz-Elvis-style lead . . . (shame Elvis had a lame sense of humour, he'd have brought the house down singing it) . . .

The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, "Death Cab for Cutie"

! No longer available

* They originally called themselves the Bonzo Dog Dada Band, then the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, and finally the Bonzo Dog Band.

* Their live shows included anything from incendiary devices planted in their instruments to hoisting cartoon-like thought balloons over each other's
heads; their music and satire wielded a big influence on Monty Python (with whom their own keyboardsman Neil Innes eventually became involved).

* Their connection to the Beatles didn't stop there; Paul McCartney produced "I'm the Urban Spaceman" (under the pseudonym Apollo C. Vermouth); and, Innes
eventually became part of the Beatles satire The Rutles.

* When British songwriter/producer Geoff Stephens came up with a number saluting as well as satirising classic British music-hall styles, he needed a touring group fast
when the song became an unexpected blockbuster in 1966. He invited the Bonzos to be that group; the band turned him down, but one of their original saxophonists,
Bob Kerr, decided to throw in with Stephens. The Stephens group: the New Vaudeville Band; their hit . . .

The New Vaudeville Band, "Winchester Cathedral"

! No longer available

* Vivian Stanshall, possibly the best-known of the Bonzos other than Neil Innes, worked with assorted projects after the Bonzos broke up in 1970, before he suffered
a nervous breakdown. After he was released from hospital, he collaborated with Steve Winwood on the latter's first true solo album; then, did a narration for Mike
Oldfield's Tubular Bells in the late 1970s; then, was involved with assorted music and film projects (including voiceovers), including his old-time radio satire
Sir Henry at Rawlinson's End, until his tragic death in a house fire in 1995.

With this Churchill movie coming out and always lots of fanfare for Winston Churchill;

Peter Frampton made a well-received album a few years ago, "Thank you Mr. Churchill":

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thank_You_Mr._Churchill

Quote
I want to thank you, Mr. Churchill
For making sure that I was born
Thanks for the innocence that made us feel secure
But time is wasting, hope is hungry now

It's a dream I'm talking here
Much closer to the poor
If we start waging peace
Instead of waging war

By the way, Dave Davies of the Kinks is touring or will be touring the US this spring, check the specific dates.

From the same album:

Really sounds like an ideal place to be. Sunny, beaches, probably lots of fresh fruit, well-made beer.

Tom Petty Died of Accidental Overdose, Family Says
The Hollywood Reporter Katie Kilkenny 1 hr ago

"Our family sat together this morning with the Medical Examiner – Coroner’s office and we were informed of their final analysis that Tom Petty passed away due to an accidental drug overdose as a result of taking a variety of medications," the family wrote in a Facebook post Friday.

The Hollywood Reporter reviewed a copy of the Los Angeles coroner's report and confirmed that Petty's death was the result of the accidental mixing of several drugs.

The family writes in the post that Petty had been suffering from pain emphysema, knee problems and a badly fractured hip, which he had been recuperating from while still on tour. On the day he died, his hip had become a "full on break," the family says. "It is our feeling that the pain was simply unbearable and was the cause for his over use of medication," they write.

Accidental overdose of prescription drugs, fentanyl and oxcodin, and he had these problems as listed in the 3rd paragraph.  Sad.
