Trump says he has proof Democrat 'totally fabricated' his call with widow of soldier
by Caitlin Yilek | Oct 18, 2017, 7:40 AM

President Trump said Wednesday he has proof that a Democratic lawmaker didn't tell the truth when she said Trump told the widow of a soldier who died in Niger that her husband "knew what he signed up for."

"Democrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof). Sad!" Trump tweeted early Wednesday.

He has to put his proof out then because it isnt only the congresswoman saying this but the widow and one other witness too.

Remember when we had a classy president in GWB? You can say whatever else you want about him, but the man was a class act.

Trump thinks class is putting gold veneer on something.

Unless he *immediately* provides a tape, proving that this dimwit congresscritter completely fabricated the story to score political points off the death of this soldier, then he's an utter man-child who should be removed from office so that an actual adult can take over.

I don't think much of Pence's ass-kissing of Trump, but I'll take him in a heartbeat now.
How to lose credibility while posting:
1. Trump is never wrong.
2. Default to the most puerile emoticon you can find. This is especially useful when you can't win an argument on merits.
3. Be falsely ingratiating, completely but politely dismissive without talking to the points, and bring up Hillary whenever the conversation is really about conservatism.
4. When all else fails, remember rule #1 and #2. Emoticons are like the poor man's tweet!

I would like to think Trump was trying to compliment the deceased soldier's bravery and commitment, but it came out all wrong.

Maybe Trump should skip the phone calls and just stick to letters written for him by his staff.  He sounds fine when delivering a scripted speech or when someone posts to the official White House Twitter account or if he sends correspondence written for him.  But when he is left to his devices, he sounds like an idiot, or in this case, a monstrously cruel idiot.

And the problem with telling the widow the truth is what?

Granted, if he did it's in poor taste, but it's the truth!

Anyone who wears the uniform should know that they are not immune from possibly having to make the ultimate sacrifice...

It'll be interesting to hear what, if anything he said.

The "statement" could have been part of a very sentimental comment that was extolling the virtue of her husband's service and sacrifice...
Throwing our allegiances to political parties in the long run gave away our liberty.

But memories are weak even in times of little stress.  I don't think it would be difficult for a politician  to change the phrasing slightly to score political points, and for witnesses to now "remember" the altered "quote".

Of course, it's also possible trump meant to say the right thing and it came out wrong but he remembers what he had wanted to say.

Trump has not yet mastered speaking with both feet in his mouth.

Frankly, none of what Trump ACTUALLY said matters.

It's this absurd tweet after the fact calling them all liars (basically) and claiming proof. That's the man-child part.

Trump could have hit a home run if he'd only said that Obama spent more time with the family of Bowe Bergdahl than with any other soldier's family.

Yep, trying to get into a sympathy fight with a grieving widow is not going to win anyone over and will only leave the most loyal defending him on this. Sad.

Or better yet, left all that crap out and just expressed genuine human empathy.

Excellent suggestion! ...I say as I look back on all my missed opportunities. If only my foresight  was as sharp as my hindsight.

Trump, like all of us, is a package. The good, the bad and the ugly. I can think of at least a dozen times in my life when the moment the words came out of my mouth I knew I had made a big mistake. One of those times lead to my divorce.

Yep, I just have to accept that this just comes with the territory, and it still beats having Hillary (or any other Republican) in the White House.

Well, I too have said the wrong thing on more than one occasion. I guess we all have. I wasn't trying to be overly critical.

But I reiterate what I said about him refraining from the spontaneous.   Many people can say the right thing off the cuff, but I can't and it seems neither can Trump.  You or I -- if we say something wrong, it's no big deal.  We apologize and hopefully, everything is all right again.  But Trump, as president, is in the public eye, constantly being scrutinized and second guessed. Say the wrong thing and he could get us I to World War III. He has to realize as president, he can't do or say whatever he wants and if you don't like it, too bad.  That attitude works among his fans, but in the rest of the world, it doesn't.   He needs  tact and diplomacy and it could be that maybe he will never acquire both.  In that case, since he has people who can speak or write for him, maybe he should let them do their job and just not do or say anything without careful scripting.

It is pointless to constantly say what Trump "should" do or say.  It's not reality.  Trump is a Gemini (which would explain the two-faced one stance one minute, another stance the next) with Leo "rising" (no jokes, please)... and a Sagittarius moon, which would explain his perpetual hoof in mouth affliction.  It ain't gonna change.   Ever.   He is what he is, now and for always.
No quarter given to the enemy within...ever.

Yes, President Bush is a classy guy.  And I remember when he would attend a funeral for the fallen or reach out to a deceased soldier's family, he would be criticized because, after all, he was the one who sent soldiers to their deaths (the detractors' favorite theme).  No matter what President Bush did, he was always being criticized.  Yet in spite of all the negativity, President Bush kept his cool.  Of course, Twitter didn't exist during his presidency.  But  I never heard of him making any public statement, calling his detractors "liars" in an effort to fan the flames.  With President Bush, being classy came natural to him, and he could say the right things.  Trump just can't do that.

Well, Trump better realized that his mouth and his Twitter wars might backfire soon.

I agree, Trump must have skipped his vocabulary and grammar classes as he seems to always mangle the English language.

On the positive side though, with his common touch and years competing in business he’s managed to hone his branding skills. I have no doubt because of this skill he beat 16 competitors in the primary. Branded “low energy” Jeb Bush, “Little Marco,” “Lying Ted,” and the rest. Don’t dismiss this point. Those names stuck. And it was Donald Trump that stuck it to them.
