Because in the Redskins case the Federal Govt was going to court to force the Redskins to change their name.   You know court, with lawyers, judges, fines and such.

In this case the President is condemning people who are showing disrespect to the nation.  He's not taking them to court.  He's not charging them with a crime.   He's not taking any legal action whatsoever.

All he's doing is publicly condemning them.  Something tens of millions of other Americans were already doing but he has given them a voice forcing the NFL to listen.

DD, methinks you're confusing "conservatives" with "populists". Trump is not a conservative, and using the flag protests for political means is pure populism.

As a conservative, those who protest have every right to do so, as I have every right to quit spending time and money on the NFL. Anyone with a viable cerebral cortex could have guessed that at least several members of the 49ers would take a knee during the anthem. IMO, the Vice President has a viable cerebral cortex; ergo, he should have known what to expect.

Trump is using the Democrats' playbook, i.e. never waste a good crisis. It's what he does, and he does not care what happens to the reputations of those who work for him.

Don't confuse my personal disgust with Trump as blind hate...there's a difference between the two, and members of the Orange Brigade would be well served to put down the KoolAid. He's not going to win reelection with 35%, i.e. his base.

My love of country is more based on love of Constitution than the flag. The Constitution is what separates us from the rest of the world...the oath of office I've taken several times as an officer and civilian was to the Constitution, to support and defend it against its enemies, foreign and domestic.
