WH officials fear colleagues are wearing a wire for Mueller: report
By Mallory Shelbourne - 09/18/17 08:22 AM EDT

Officials working in the White House are reportedly worried that colleagues may be wearing a wire for special counsel Robert Mueller.

The special counsel's probe into possible connections between President Trump and Russia has caused rising tensions between White House Counsel Don McGahn and Ty Cobb, a lawyer who joined the administration to handle the Mueller probe, The New York Times reported Sunday.

Cobb has urged the administration to hand over as many documents as it can for the special counsel’s probe, while McGahn is worried about precedents that could weaken the White House for future administrations, the report said.

I'd make them strip down every damned day when entering the WH...check for wires and microphones.

No jewelry...no tie clips...not even a wedding ring or phone.

If it was up to me, they'd have nothing on but pants and shirts.   No socks or shoes.

Why would he need a warrant?  He has the consent of the person wearing the wire, and that's sufficient.

Nobody said anything about "punching" anyone, counselor.   Use your imagination.

Thats sufficient for the wearee but what about those around him.   Not to mention the executive privileged issues being trampled on.  Then there's the national security issues.

yeah

That's sufficient for all.  Some states are two-party consent states, but federal law and most states are one-party consent regimes.  Some states require a warrant if the cops are sending a wired informant into a private house, I believe, but otherwise, under one-party rule, the consent of the wire-wearer is all that's needed.

By what authority is this investigation being conducted? What limits the scope?

Why aren't the Republicans screaming bloody murder,, over the witch-hunt?

Not in the White House its not.   Most likely it would be a violation of the espionage laws, executive privilege, and national security laws since pretty much everything that is said in the White House is classified.

No, in a normal world everyone involved with this would be locked up for about 30 years.

Because the Republicans want Trump overthrown and they'd even be ok with a democrat replacing him.

Pence better watch his back.

Investigation established by and scope defined by Trump appointee, Rob Rosenstein.  As he told Chris Wallace last month:  "Bob Mueller understands and I understand the specific scope of the investigation, and so no, it's not a fishing expedition."

How do you know?  You got caselaw that says it isn't?  Or is this just more of your personal hatred for anyone who opposes Trump coming out?

I'm not even sure it can ever be legal to bug an attorney's office, let alone the white house.

For nat'l security issues alone, there should be no wires in the White House. That's part of the supposed reason for this investigation, is giving info and theoretically intel to the Russians.

Seems a little contradictory to risk sensitive intel when you're trying to prosecute something similar.

Reasonable people would agree.

Reasonable people.

Especially given the record of leaking by the Mueller team.

Watergate unfolded on TV and the radio. Nixon resigned and others went to federal prison.

There was a known, identifiable crime from the night the burglars were caught. Then the cover up.

What is the identifiable crime, in this instance? Apparently they are still "fishing" for it.

What is the evidence, for the belief a crime may have been committed?

The purpose of this is to sow discord and mistrust in the Administration.   Maybe get something they can use against him but its all an effort to bring down Trump.
