David Clarke Resigns As Milwaukee Co. Sheriff

David Clarke submitted his resignation as Milwaukee County sheriff on Thursday afternoon, The Daily Caller is told.


It is not yet clear why Clarke decided to resign. Reached by phone, Milwaukee County clerk George Christenson confirmed the resignation but said that Clarke provided no details about why he is quitting mid-term.

Outspoken Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, who built a following among conservatives nationally with his provocative social media presence and strong support of Donald Trump, resigned on Thursday.

Clarke may President Trump’s administration, according to a one report. Politico reported that Clarke is expected to join the Trump administration in a position that is not Senate-confirmed. The former sheriff told Politico that he would “talk about my future plans next week."

Clarke submitted his resignation in a one-sentence letter to the county clerk that gave no reason for his departure more than a year before his term is up. In a brief statement a couple of hours later, Clarke also didn't explain.

I'm hoping he didn't resign "to spend more time with my family".  That's always a bad sign.
