I'm in Central Florida.  Looks like the eye right now is supposed to pass over us or just to the west and may have Cat2 winds when it gets here.

We're in a different house now than when the 4 storms went through back in 2004 I think it was.  We had a huge 8' x 8' sliding glass door in our family room that I was watching bow in and out with one of those before I decided it would be safer in a different room.

Just watching the Florida live cams, it would seem that many there don't feel the need to evacuate.  Sunshine, slight breeze and people still walking, biking and driving around like normal.  Hmmm...

96* F at the house right now.  Too freaking hot to go out and pick up and put little things away that will blow around.  Wait until later in the evening when it's a tad cooler.

Yeah, but considering the storm that they took, I think a lot of the buildings did pretty well.  Some roof damage is better than flattened houses.  Sand through cracks is not a big deal to me compared to the flattened houses we saw with Andrew.
Andrew was an intense storm. Small, fast, and brutal, and iirc spawned a lot of tornadoes, along with very high winds.

Don't underestimate sand in cracks either. We're not talking a sprinkle but a few feet accumulated in a room, washed in and deposited.

They probably haven't thought about the next 2-3 weeks without air conditioning, sewer, water, electricity and significantly reduced police and emergency services.
We lost electricity for 8 days after a freak October snowstorm about 5 years ago. The "adventure" got old after about 3 hours. For example, I have a generator, but its not big enough to run a dishwasher.

Call me crazy....but I'd like to be on the Miami beach right about now.  Perfect weather, very few people/tourists, no crowd.  The locals still there must be in (temporary) bliss.

Haha, I'm doing the opposite, enjoying the air conditioning while we have it!

I wouldn't worry about that.  Dave Barry did a write-up about surviving Andrew, and he said that was the easiest part of all.  He just left the yard full of kids' toys, and after the storm it was all gone, like magic.

2 interesting points in last advisory.

(1) More westerly vector than earlier forecasted.
(2) Models and forecast has shifted projected track west. 2 successive runs now that have trended that way.

Predicting this sharp right turn is going to be very very tough for the NHC.  I would recommend those from NOLA eastward to keep a an eye on this.  4 PM advisory should be interesting.

When the Teton dam broke up here people were dragging any vehicle they had that wasn't running down in the way of the flood. Or parking down there and walking away. We moved here a year after the flood and a whole bunch of kids I went to high school with were driving brand new cars.

Been there. I've got a big 70's diesel welder/generator on a trailer that I am putting back together. Doing a little wheel and deal on solar panels and batteries right now... That setup will run my place without even breathing hard, and  already I have 110 gallons on hand.I bought that old girl for 200 bucks. The motor runs like a watch...

It ain't hard to be ready for it. And it doesn't have to be expensive.

Shoot, the only reason I am doing all this is so I don't have to move the freezer(s) outside in the winter, and so I'm not screwed if I lose power in the SUMMER.

Other than that, wood heat and kerosene lanterns work just fine for winter storms...

Just north of Tampa Bay area.  On "high" ground and boarded up.  We're riding it out.  Should be interesting...

The last time I was on Miami Beach was as a child and we went to Wolfies for dinner. Yum!

It's not kids toys so much as lots of small trees and plants in pots.  My luck they would blow around enough to break a window, or God forbid, an A/C unit.

@RoosGirl I ended up abandoning the Canadian bear hunt and driving 26 hours straight to get back to Florida.  At a evac site in North Florida Georgia border.  Storm looks like it will go thru here.  This place will flood and trees will block roads.  Gonna have to leave.   Thinking about going back to Tampa. Our house there should be fine in a cat 2 or 3.

@driftdiver. Y'all be safe.  At least driving South the roads should be clear for you.  But I'd get a move on soon if that's what you're going to do.  Maybe head to the east coast and find a shelter there.  Or, head further north into Georgia and extend your vacay.  Blue Ridge area is real nice.

Hubby went outside to start putting things away and it started pouring on him after about 30 mins.  Guess that cool front finally made it to us.  Has dumped about 3" on us so far.

Yeah, I was in Pinellas county for the '04 season.  That was a hoot.  This should prove interesting.

If you can safely post about the road conditions, please do.  I'm heading north from Tampa sometime tomorrow.  I'm getting vastly different reports on traffic.

@InHeavenThereIsNoBeer

A coworker just drove up on 301 and said it was fine but a bit slow.  I'm hearing the interstate northbound is a mess by Ocala.  Southbound is apparently ok all the way to tampa.
