When they ran, when did the incumbent President fail to get the nomination?

Trump's supporters like what he has done. His detractors are mostly on the left, and wouldn't vote for ANY Republican.

LBJ.  I think he quit because he knew he wasn't going to get the nomination.

In the 17 elections that an incumbent has been on the ballot, only four times has the incumbent lost. So on history alone, Trump's odds are roughly three-to-one in his favor.

Great point.

Yeah where are the Trump supporters to cry fake news?  Ridiculous story.

It's not exactly fake news.  It's just not news.  It's idle and useless speculation.

You are conveniently forgetting that Trump will be blamed for the failure of the GOP to repeal ObamaCare.  Thus, any implosion of ObamaCare will fall on him, not on the Democrats.  The rats will use this to defeat Trump in 2020.  Bet on it.  Trump better wake the hell up and start campaigning for that repeal.

Probably true but unfair.  There's plenty of stuff to blame Trump about but he didn't fail on Obamacare...Congress did.

Since when has politics (ever) been "fair"?  lol

And let's not even talk about the perception of the voting public if tax reform fails too.  And it probably will.

The economy was artifically good in 2012, with the Fed keeping interest rates too low, holding 4 trillion in bonds to prop up the stock market, and reporting modified U6 numbers for unemployment to make it appear far lower than reality.

So far none of these policies have changed, we are just ignoring it because of the R behind the name.

Well interest rates are going to rise so that's one difference

But the stock market is still being propped up.  Even with all the above that you listed we still cannot get at least one year of 3% or greater GDP
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

Doesn't count since he did not enter the race. I'm talking about incumbents, failing to get the nomination.

In addition, the dollar is dropping hard, making the markets seem high but in reality, just more expensive to buy due to the dollar value.

No one really wants to talk about that. They want the illusion things are great. Just like Dems during Obama's term.

These fools won't believe the polls but they'll believe analysis less than a year into his Presidency.

Both failed.
