Cowsills recorded this, someone else did the original. I've heard it. Just for the fireworks shows tonight.

The Cowsills actually did the original, used in the show's first season; a group known as the Ron Hicklin
Singers---the actual voices behind all the Partridge Family not named Shirley Jones or David Cassidy---
re-recorded it for the rest of the show's life. The latter version is said to have been dubbed onto almost
all the first season vignettes for syndication.

All Music Is Welcome, This fourth of July;

http://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays.php

As noted, curiously, July 4th is the birthday of the "Father of American Music", Stephen Foster.

I believe, they have even found additional songs by Foster; there was a recent news story on this.

"Blind Owl" Alan Wilson of Canned Heat, was born on this day. He was their singer.

Playwright Neil Simon was born on this day as well. Our local jazz station was playing a version of the Odd Couple theme once.  Simon wrote the play.

The other website we've been using is down. So, we will see.

Alan (Blind Owl) Wilson was also Canned Heat's harmonica whip and slide guitarist (the lead vocals Wilson
didn't sing, Bob [The Bear] Hite did):

Before helping to form Canned Heat, Wilson helped rediscover blues legend Son House and, incredibly
enough, re-taught House how to play his own repertoire (as well as playing harmonica on some of the
cuts for House's Columbia Records comeback in 1965).

HINT to all my fellow travelers here, do not look up 'stockings' on utube or look for the 'safe search' button, I got distracted.

Non-birthday related, Aaron Tippin from a few days ago.

Fine song.

Checked even another source, from what I see, not much in musical history today, at least pop and rock. So, have at it, tune us into some of your favorites.

Little known about Huey Lewis was that he got a
perfect 800 on the math SAT, and was also an all-state baseball player.

He attended the Cornell University College of Engineering for a while before dropping out for other pursuits.

Happy birthday, Robbie Robertson; here's the best performance I ever heard the Band
give of "The Weight," with special guests . . .

    • I try my best ...
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.
Rational fear and anger at vicious murderous Islamic terrorists is the same as irrational antisemitism, according to the Leftists.
