All Music Is Welcome.

I'm checking some birthdays today,

http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/born_today  http://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays.php
Quote

1915 Willie Dixon, American blues musician ("Hoochie Coochie Man"), born in Vicksburg, Mississippi (d. 1992)

He wrote a lot of songs we are familiar with, like this one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67o3p2ew5mc

Deborah Harry of Blondie

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jk5yNb1NyBw

Bobby Day, singer of Rockin' Robin

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OFESufsZG0

And many others, on this day,   http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/

Quote
1995, DJ Wolfman Jack died of a heart attack. He was the master of ceremonies for the rock 'n' roll generation of the '60s on radio, and later on television during the '70s.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfman_Jack

Saw his autobiography at the library, never quite got around to reading it.

Quote
Wolfman Jack worked as a disc jockey from 1964 to 1966 for the (then) 250,000 watt radio station XERF (1570 AM) in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico, just across the river from Del Rio, Texas, USA, which is among borders of Texas and Mexico.http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0413125/bio?ref_=nm_dyk_trv_sm#trivia

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPTfIPHLUcw

Those old Mexican radio stations, the X who played a lot of that rock and roll and apparently other things. I had known he worked for one of those stations.

Just a little on this day in history, July 1st.

Great song and I think the story goes is it was written originally tongue in cheek.

Keith Whitley was born today, he parterned with Lorrie Morgan on some songs.  In fact, they were married.

Marc Benno as well.

Nightcrawlers was Benno's band so quite an extensive catalog.

All music and all are welcome.

The late great Marvin Rainwater was born today.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEUGob69p7w

Love the song, he wrote it, it's been recorded by many. It might sound a bit on the corny edge nowadays. I think it holds up fine. Part Native American, Marvin. He did a duet too, with Connie Francis, the majesty of love.

http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/born_today
http://www.thisdayinmusic.com
http://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays.php

Tom Springfield, Dusty's brother. He wrote some fine songs, some recorded by the Seekers who were a bit like Dusty's and Tom's band, the Springfields.  He's the one on the right in the next video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilqKtJrs12w
He wrote "I'll never find another you" recorded by the Australian group.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmactMIhrRM
Along with Jim Dale, he did write "Georgy Girl", very well-known song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_t3OWTQeTJU
https://secondhandsongs.com/artist/13382/works
I think the Seekers are sort of what the Springfields would have been, if they had continued as a band.

So, that should get things rolling.

"Most patriotic rock songs"

https://www.thetoptens.com/patriotic-rock-songs/
http://wcsx.com/2017/05/26/top-10-classic-rock-patriotic-songs/

Subjective, I think the 2nd list is a better list.

"We're an American band" GFR; I can go along with that being one of the better songs out there.

There were more lists out there.

That and Don McLean's American Pie indeed may be the best of the bunch.

Some of the most pervasive 70s funk never got played on the radio. Instead you heard it as background music on TV shows... like this piece, a prize cue from The Price Is Right.

All music is welcome, I peeked at some of whom have birthdays today, quite a lineup.

http://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays.php

So, in no special order:

Fontella Bass, singer of the hit "Rescue Me":

Pete Fountain, clarinet, jazz;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Eq-0qUmNRc

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJIG7aQO3OQ

Mike Corby, the Babys;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DOcro7VeDo

Judith Durham of the Seekers;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqdaCOt51Dk

Johnnie Wilder Jr. of Heatwave:

Quote
He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.

On February 24, 1979, a van broadsided Wilder's car, paralyzing him from the neck down and hospitalizing him for a year.

During the 1980s and 1990s, Wilder went on to record other albums with the group and later began a gospel career, singing a cappella on the albums My Goal and One More Day.

And Mississippi John Hurt;

My favorite "pop" song on America might well be "City of New Orleans" despite its name, it's about more than that.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piUWIqWSthA

The "father of American" music was born on the 4th of July; and he too, lived a relatively short life.
Stephen Foster. Sam Cooke did a fine job on this.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Foster

So, getting a bit of a jump on tomorrow.

Birthday today: Damon Harris, who took over the Eddie Kendricks role in the Temptations in time for
these two jewels, and who sounded enough like Kendricks that Temptations fans who hadn't yet seen
the new lineup live swore he was Kendricks:

Another birthday boy: Andy Fraser, Free bassist and---with singer Paul Rodgers---co-author of most of their
material:
