Yes!  Excellent idea.  However, I would go even further and have a moratorium on ALL immigration into this country for a period of 5 years.  That would give us some time to put in place a wall (yes I know it's not in budget), increase border security, and have a better system to know who's coming into this country.

If they are here legally and working and paying into the system, I don't have a problem with that.  There are those that are here illegally, and obtain a social  security number fraudulently in order to collect benefits which is a whole other matter.

He should have just done it with Executive Order.  Going to have trouble getting this through.  Too many politicians with strings to corporations welfare.  Also fearing the Hispanic vote.

But if this goes through it will be huge deterrent to illegal immigration.  They should also put a stop to free emergency care at the hospital.  Coming over the border and dropping a baby for free.

But this does keep the emotions high in his supporters and that's what its all about 

Currently green card holders must wait 5 years before they are eligible for any means tested federal benefit and contrary to popular belief it is being enforced. Additionally, when they apply for their green cards initially they have to find a sponsor who well agree to support them should they require welfare and other means tested benefits until they have become a citizen or worked 10 years to qualify for SS..

Though there are laws on the books, there are also exceptions to those laws that seem to enable many to receive benefits.  It also greatly depends on who is filling out the paperwork and what they've been instructed to do.

I hope Trump can get this enacted.  I don't know if it can be done by Executive Order or if Congress has to approve.

How odd, when my parents legally immigrated to America in the early 1950's they had to
A: Have a sponsor prior to being able to come.
B. had to sign an affidavit that tey would neither accept or seek any government assistance for a period of five years.

Now we not only give illegals more and better benefifts than native born Americans and legal immigrants, we actively teach potential illegals how to rip off American taxpayers in their home countries before they even steal accross our borders.

Exactly right! Why should wbe import poverty into our country? As of 2 years ago, more than 90% of middle eastern immigrants were on food stamps and nearly 70% were on cash assistance. This must stop.
