After going drummerless and mostly jobless for a few weeks, the band hired Pete Best on August 12th, only one day before they were to go to Hamburg to play a string of club dates.

Jack Scott is still with us and his music goes back to the 1950s.  I appreciate his gospel tunes about as much as anything he has done.

I came across similar themed doo wop before, of course, the Andrews Sisters did this one probably some time before these other recordings.

Lots of modern doo wop, not bad really.

Some school did this, not bad. I am not aware of the original recordings they are emulating.

First of all, thanks for that early Starliters video.

Of course, I'm partial to Pookie. We saw him perform with The Spaniels a few years before his death in 2007.

Here are a few more (lesser known):

Quote
1941, Born on this day, Reg Presley, singer, The Troggs, (1966 US No.1 & UK No.2 single 'Wild Thing'). Wrote ‘Love Is All Around’, covered by Wet Wet Wet in 1994, which stayed at No.1 in the UK Singles Chart for fifteen weeks. In 1990 Presley began to develop an interest in the paranormal, in particular crop circles. He used the royalties ‘Love Is All Around’ to fund his research into the area and outlined his findings in a book, Wild Things They Don't Tell Us, which was published in 2002. Presley died on 4th Feb 2013.

Chick Corea, Vic Damone are among others were born on this day.  John Wetton as well, he was discussed, it doesn't seem like he passed away as long ago as January 31, 2017.

Bill Kenny was born on this date in 1914; he was a member of the Ink spots, famous group. How about that name "Ink Spots" in today's PC society?  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Kenny_(singer)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzS_M8t1Qsw

Also performed by the Platters, a great song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDlcqhlzDqQ

The Ink Spots really go back though, to the '30s and probably had a number of changes throughout the years.

Fire Birds do Bristol Stomp; quite a song.

Happy birthday, Len Barry (Dovells)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCOB5-E4P6Y

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CerAe2LLacs

This one was my fraternity song. Coincidentally, at a dance there, I met a girl who'd dated Len Barry...

Which was taken from this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eO2cxwz70o

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcxcbzAYD9Y

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esxwcEIBXfs
Len Barry was involved in this out-of-left-field 1969 instrumental R&B hit; a lot of the players on
this ended up forming the MFSB house band of Philadelphia International Records in the 1970s:

Of course, we know where the title came from.

However, it didn't work when Larry Verne tried using it here:
