Country music superstar George Strait has been named the Texas state musician for 2017.
The State Legislature will officially make the appointment on Thursday in Austin through House and Senate resolutions.
Two other San Antonio residents also will named state artists. Jenny Browne will be the Texas poet laureate for 2017, and Carol Coffee Reposa will hold that position in 2018.
San Antonio poets have dominated that post in recent years. Previous poets laureate from the Alamo City include Rosemary Catacalos (2013), Carmen Tafolla (2015) and Laurie Ann Guerrero (2016).
