My ultra conservative history teacher back in HS spent a week on this song. Also discussed Elton John Yellow Brick Road about society moving from agriculture to industrial

We spent  3 weeks just listening to various songs. Best teacher I ever had.

It seems to me Communist and Subversive are two separate things. Yes, Communists used Subversives, but for the most part, the latter opposes whatever authority is in charge, so a natural enemy of Communists at the end of the day.

That being said, most good Rock (real Rock) is Subversive.
