I just acquired the box set of the Beatles Live at the BBC: The Collection, both 2-disc sets of their
BBC radio live performances. It's about the best way to get a gander at how the Beatles sounded live
without the shrieking of The Mania at their concerts. This isn't from that box set, of course, but it's
as close to the box set's cut as you'll get of them playing this number. (Missing from this clip: Paul
McCartney's cheeky introduction of the song---"The next song is from The Music Man. It's also
been recorded by our favourite American group---Sophie Tucker." [Tucker had preceded the Beatles
at the Royal Variety Performance 1963 from which this was taken . . .)

I remember hearing one of them saying all the shrieking is why they quit touring. It got so loud they couldn't hear themselves singing, and sometimes had a hard time hearing the instruments.  Can't remember which one said it now. Probably Paul.

All of them said much the same thing at one time or another.

It was wrecking our playing. Eventually I just played the off beat.---Ringo Starr, about the noise. (If you think
about it, he was probably the unsung hero of their concerts, since the racket made it so impossible for them to
hear themselves they probably had to lean on Ringo's backbeat just to stay in the same place.)

And if you listen a certain way, you could say that with Beatles For Sale (a.k.a. Beatles '65 in the U.S.) at
the end of 1964 that the Beatles had already looked into the mouth of the beast they birthed and were wearying of
it. Especially, listen to the way George Harrison sings "Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby" to finish that album. When
Carl Perkins wrote and first cut that song it was just teenage bragging. When Harrison got hold of it in late '64, he
sang it as though the very idea of everybody trying to be his baby scared him sh@tless.

Please do not modify any of my posts as in Saturday; please make one's own if one is going to respond to me and I have done no egregious act like cussing, posting some untoward video, etc.

I liked this one so much the first time I heard it on YouTube I bought the album . . . it features Count Basie's great
tenorman/flautist Frank Wess and Kenny Clarke, the drummer who changed the game forever a decade earlier
when he became the first jazz drummer to keep time on the ride cymbal rather than just thumping the bass drum
to keep time . . . and of course old Bags himself at the vibes . . .

@Suppressed
You're welcome! Here's a demo of one of a number I wrote for a band to jam on:

Easy Ace, "The Last Man Standing"

I did that one with one of my Les Paul guitars and a digital keyboard on which I simulated the
bass, organ, and drums.

A few covers, I'm not sure if this is the song I heard by Stevie Salas but he's being billed as a Native American Hendrix-styled guitarist and here he does one of Jimi's songs. Salas seems to hail from San Diego; so, he sort of sounds like a Chicano, Mexican American type to me.

Nice cover of this one, many folks do a nice cover of this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCLJQrZia2I

It's really quite a song, originally by the Count V.

One wonders about some of the one hit wonders, wonderful songs but you'd think they would have had others. I know they did but not on the same level.
