Elbow Pain Management

The appropriate management of elbow pain depends greatly on the cause of the pain, which should be addressed. For most patients, the pain management plan includes a combination of non-pharmacological and medical options to relieve the hurt. A small number of patients may require surgery to relieve the pain, although this is usually reserved for refractory cases, when the pain is unresponsive to other treatment methods.

Non-Pharmacological Techniques

Physical therapy often plays a significant role in the management of elbow and arm pain. It is helpful in increasing the strength and flexibility of the joint so that the trauma and the pain are less likely to recur. Hot and cold therapy, such as applying ice to the area, can also help to reduce inflammation and pain after an injury.

Neck Pain Management

The management of neck pain usually involves a combination of physical therapy, lifestyle changes and medications. There are also some other non-pharmacological techniques that are commonly used to manage neck pain. Surgery is also an option in some cases, although this is typically reserved as a last line option when other treatments have failed, due to its possible side effects.

Physical therapy

Exercises to keep the neck moving is important to increase and to maintain the strength and flexibility of the muscles and connective tissues that are responsible for providing support to the neck. These exercises can be painful initially, so it is important to start gradually and slowly introduce the exercises. It is also essential to make sure that the neck is not allowed to become stiff.

The management of foot pain can vary significantly for each patient as the best course of action depends on the cause of the pain. In most cases, patients will combine non-pharmaceutical therapy with medication to provide adequate relief of foot pain.

Physical therapy

Physical therapy is an important part of foot pain management. For pain caused by inflammation following a physical injury to the foot, an ice pack applied immediately after the incident can help, as it brings down the inflammation. Heat packs can be used to reduce swelling and pain for patients with arthritis and similar conditions.

Lower Back Pain Management

By Yolanda Smith, BPharm

The management of lower back pain typically depends on the nature and cause of the pain. In most cases, management involves a combination of physical therapy and drug treatments. Surgical procedures are reserved for refractory cases, or when there is significant and worsening nerve damage.
Physical therapy

Hot or cold packs are often recommended for the relief of pain and to reduce inflammation, particularly for individuals who have suffered an injury to the lower back. There is currently no research-backed evidence to prove that this is effective. However, many individuals find it helpful, and it does not appear to have adverse effects.

Hand Pain Management

The appropriate management of hand pain will usually depend greatly on the cause of the pain. Management techniques include physical therapy, at-home treatment, medications and surgery, each of which is described in more detail below.

Physical Therapy

For hand pain involving inflammation, the RICE protocol is most beneficial to reduce the swelling and pain. This comprises the four steps. Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. It is important to avoid moving the hand too much. Applying ice may help to reduce swelling. Keep the hand elevated and wrap it to prevent further swelling. This is also beneficial.

Summary

Pain relievers are medicines that reduce or relieve headaches, sore muscles, arthritis, or other aches and pains. There are many different pain medicines, and each one has advantages and risks. Some types of pain respond better to certain medicines than others. Each person may also have a slightly different response to a pain reliever.

Over-the-counter (OTC) medicines are good for many types of pain. There are two main types of OTC pain medicines: acetaminophen (Tylenol) and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Aspirin, naproxen (Aleve), and ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) are examples of OTC NSAIDs.

@rangerrebew

I have a lower back problem, and about a month ago, I bought (on Amazon), a full length cushy pad that has low heat and vibration.  It totally covers a recliner.  Bob did something last Friday that caused his back to be really bad.  Had to miss church on Saturday, yesterday, due to his pain.  He does have pain pills and is using those, plus using the pad/recliner at times during the day.

I have said God screwed up when he made backs.  He needs a new design.
