CORPUS CHRISTI -

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department say they are short-handed and are now accepting applications. They are looking for the next generation of Texas Game Wardens. In just a week, more than 400 hundred people have already applied to become game wardens.

Of these 400 plus that have already signed up, only about 45 will get a chance to be a part of the next generation of elite state law enforcement officers with the 62nd Texas Game Warden Cadet class.

“We are slightly short-handed. We have 551 wardens across the state, and we are not making that number right because of retirements, and the number of forces we are having to keep along the border to keep Texas safe," said Texas Game Warden Robbie Robinson.

If you are thinking about becoming a cadet, you will be required to live at the Game Warden Training Center near Hamilton, Texas, for the duration of the 30-week training period.

“That could be pretty challenging to be out there for that long. You know it is very extensive training. You get well-versed in all the academics studying the law, as well as the physical aspects that make sure you are in top shape of the physical aspects to meet the demands of this job,” said new Texas Game Warden Landon Cook.

Since 1895, Texas game wardens have protected the people of Texas through professional law enforcement services that include land, water and air patrols; search and rescue; and tactical operations, all while working to conserve and protect the natural resources of our state.
