CNN WIRE
Feb. 14, 2017

OROVILLE, Calif. — With the water level at California’s Lake Oroville dropping, authorities lifted mandatory evacuations, allowing tens of thousands of residents to return to homes near the reservoir’s dam.

But Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea on Tuesday cautioned residents and business owners to “maintain situational awareness” with a series of storms forecast for later in the week.

“People who have special needs or require extended time to evacuate should consider remaining evacuated,” the sheriff said.

They're saying the new storms shouldn't be as bad as the old storms. We'll see.

Pretty foolish risk, considering the consequences of being wrong.

Dec, 8th the reservoir was 40% full, and yesterday it was 100% full. By the time the next rain arrives, it may be down to 95% by draining it.

Not to mention the continuing risk of the spillway failing.

In addition to rain, what is the impact of the Sierra Nevada snow pack spring melt going to have on it?

Good question. The main issue in terms of danger is the spillway failure from the reservoir which was put into use when the level reached 100% full.

Dunno, but the CA Dept of Water Resources had better pray for a cool spring.
