I can DEFINITELY get behind Trump if he is brave enough to do this , because THIS will do far more than a wall to cease the invasion of third world squatters we have permitted over the last 13 years.  It is a ROOT CAUSE for why the dregs of the world are being paid to haul themselves in here and live off of you and I.

However, if Trump is indeed this brave - if you thought the ban on people from Jihad-sponsoring nations drive the Left and the GOP Establishment batshiite crazy - you 'aint seen NOTHING compared to the near-instantaneous conflagration that will erupt if he does this.

A leaked draft of an executive order by President Donald Trump indicates that he is looking to eliminate the welfare state for illegals, which is nothing more than dangling a carrot in front of them to cross the southern border on the American taxpayers' dime.

Ditto that.  And.... if he does follow through and do this, he's going to need all the support, moral and otherwise, that even we former anti-Trump folks can give him.  Cause they will indeed be trying to take him down ....any way possible.

Baby steps.

Kill any and all welfare bennies from Fed sources to anyone who is not a bonafide citizen.  That we can probably get a good chunk of people to support - if it is properly explained to them enough to overcome the instantaneous charge of 'Racism/Nativist' that is certain to be bellowing from the media and the Left along with Atzlan and every other South American interest group.

Once that is established and done, moving onto the anchor baby problem can happen later.  Take away the incentive that brings them all here first: free stuff on our dime.

But then, the GOP Establishment and the Left will consider this an act of war against their future constituencies that they both now pander to with reckless abandon, so Trump faces a major uphill battle to do this, if it happens at all.

You realize this is regarding legal immigrants.

Not just illegals.

So?

Why should any foreign national or potential future citizen be entitled to welfare benefits from the taxpayers that should only be provided to the citizenry?  If needed, let them go to private institutions for aid or Leftist states that cater to them for local tax benefits if they so desire.

You know, at one time, we only permitted the best and brightest immigrants to come into this country - based on the evaluation of how much of a productive asset and benefit they would provide society.  THAT was the reason for Ellis Island in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Why can't we follow the wisdom of our forbears, or is that too racist in todays bass backwards culture?

Congress needs to do it so the next democrat president just write another EO overturning it.

This should actually be the first move, and if done right, could alleviate the need for as harsh of other moves.

Except, this is not in the President's authority. This should be a Congressional action.

Furthermore, historical precedent (both in law and in the courts) have us treating green-card holders as Americans, excepting for the ability to vote in federal elections.

I'm all for ending the precedent.

You cannot have liberty in a Free Market Republic with an open welfare state.

I'm perfectly happy and supportive of taxpayer subsidized welfare - being totally and completely scrapped and eliminated for anyone who is not a bona-fide provable citizen of these states.

Taxpayer benefits should only be available to citizens, I don't care if foreign nationals or green card holders pay taxes.  They get nothing until they become a citizen. 

That is how it is in most nations not being overrun with invasion armies of immigrant squatters who hope to take over sovereign nations from within.
