He who makes an attempt to enslave me, thereby puts himself into a state of war with me.

@Elderberry

The problem with this procedure is that you have now created a hazmat substance, and cannot safely dispose of it--You'd have to burn it up.

Thankfully ethanol free gas is available around here. I don't run the ethanol crap in my old truck.

Or make your own butanol (possible but not easy or cheap)

Your local small airport will have 87 octane ethanol free gasoline for a reasonable price too. I bought 3 gallons for use in my chainsaw and weed whacker last summer. It ran about $3/gallon.

That's a good thought for those who don't have other options. I've heard old timers who used to buy extra high-octane gas, for their hot-rods, back in the day.

I wish we could make butanol with a commerically viable process.

Yep. Conoco (Sinclair, Union 76) Premium. It's ethanol free and all I burn.

Efforts are being made with some progress.  What is helping the effort is that Butanol currently is about $5 to $6 per gallon wholesale in the industrial chemicals space.  What is hurting the process is that non-petro means of product is a bit more costly.  I have recently read that there is now a bio-algae carbohydrate production that can be pushed through two stage fermentation to produce butanol.  Patents are involved and once they expire (10 years???) this process might become cost competitive.

I think the real explosion of this technology will come in the micro / farm market.  A lot of $$ are spent on fuel for agriculture.  Get the farmers to make their own fuel and it could start a whole round of fuel cost reduction.
