RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - It's a canvass of contempt that spares few. Democratic voters may want to take a detour around the corner of 25th and Cedar Streets, after a man covered much of his century-old home in scornful spray paint.
The two-story tableau takes on left-leaning politicians, including Hillary Clinton, Tim Kaine and Terry McAuliffe. Dozens of demeaning phrases are painted from the ground to the roof, with Bill Clinton compared to Satan, D.C. described as Hades, and the Trump-Pence ticket, praised.
"It's aggressive, and it's kind of crazy," said neighbor Mondre Ricks in an interview Wednesday. "I've seen the guy on his ladder painting, and this all came together pretty fast."
Messages scrawled on the residence indicate homeowner Steve Morris is behind the graffiti, with media reports from 2013 saying Morris then carried out similar actions. But even though the spray paint is on his own property, Richmond officials said the political protest is illegal.
The changes to the century-old home were made without review by the city's architectural commission. The unauthorized additions are considered illegal acts, since approval is required for all homes within Richmond's Union Hill Old and Historic District.
Morris declined to comment Wednesday, driving away when met at his front door. [.......]
