Activists fight to stop Wisconsin teen with incurable disease who has decided to die

A Wisconsin teenager who decided to end her life by refusing treatment for an incurable disease is facing a new challenge: disability rights activists.

Several organizations are pressuring child protection services to intervene in 14-year-old Jerika Bolen’s plan to enter hospice care at the end of summer.

“A child doesn’t have the capacity to make those types of decisions, and under the eyes of the law, this is a child,” Carrie Ann Lucas, head of Disabled Parents Rights, told the Appleton Post-Crescent.

Jerika — who made national headlines in July when her hometown threw her a glitzy prom to celebrate her life after she announced she was ready to die — was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy when she was 8 months old.

Not a fan of assisted suicide.

When my grandmother passed away in January she complained that it takes so long. With my mom it was like flipping a light switch.

"I trust her decision far more at 14 years old than those who wish to interfere."

I wish it were that simple.

Ever call your car, or health insurer to ask about your recent rate increase?

My position is and will remain NO to Doctor assisted suicide in ALL cases.

Lives unworthy of living all too easily become lives too expensive to keep living.

My 'Viking Hunter' High Adventure Alternate History Series is FREE, ALL 3 volumes, at most ebook retailers including Ibooks, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and more.

In Vol 2 the weapons come out in a winner take all war on two fronts.

Vol 3 opens with the rigged murder trial of the villain in a Viking Court under Viking law to set the stage for the hero's own murder trial.

While my grandmother complained about it taking so long, she never asked for help to die.
