The Marine Corps are testing a new robotic system that can be armed with an M240 machine gun and is outfitted with sensors and cameras called the Modular Advanced Armed Robotic System (MAARS).

Infantry Marines from 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines tested the robot on training missions at Camp Pendleton, and in August MAARS will head to 29 Palms for live rounds testing.

A product of the Corps’ Warfighting Laboratory, MAARS can reach a speed of 7 mph—which would match the pace of soldiers walking next it—and can hold up to 400 rounds, or carry a 40mm grenade launcher.
