CNN cuts ties with Donna Brazile, freeing her up for DNC job
Politico, July 24, 2016, By Hadas Gold

CNN has suspended Donna Brazile's contributor agreement as she takes the reins of the Democratic National Committee.

"With news of Donna Brazile stepping in as interim chair for the Democratic National Committee, CNN and Brazile have mutually agreed to temporarily suspend her contract as a contributor for the network effective immediately. As a valued voice and commentator, CNN will revisit the contract once Brazile concludes her role," a CNN spokeswoman said in an email on Sunday.

Brazile will keep all her on-air commitments to CNN this week in an unpaid capacity.

Brazile will serve as interim chair for Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who is stepping down at the end of the convention following hacked emails showing Wasserman Schultz speaking negatively about Sen. Bernie Sanders and his campaign. Brazile was the DNC's vice chair for civic engagement and voter participation and has previously served as chair in 2011.

A Democratic strategist who has worked for many major candidates, Brazile became the first African-American woman to manage a major party nominee's campaign when she was appointed campaign manager for Vice-President Al Gore's 2000 campaign for president.

Speaking later on CNN, Brazile said her first priority would be trying to find out who was behind the theft of the email, given that she expects that more staff emails are out there.

Brazile also has a contributor agreement with ABC. We've reached out to ABC for comment and will update here accordingly.
