AhlulBayt News Agency - About 150 US troops have arrived in the Kurdish-controlled town of Rumeilan in northeastern Syria, said a Kurdish security source on Wednesday, Sputnik reported.

Washington announced on Monday additional deployment of 250 US military personnel in Syria to provide support to local forces fighting terrorist groups in the war-torn country.

"Some 150 American soldiers have arrived. Some have been flown by helicopters to Rumeilan airfield, and some arrived across the border with Iraq. There are instructors and intelligence personnel among them," the source said.

According to the source, part of the arrived contingent immediately headed to the north of the Raqqa province.

The deployment will bring the number of personnel to roughly 300, up from about 50 special operations forces currently in Syria’s Kurdish region.
