The National Enquirer Long in the Tank for Trump
« on: March 25, 2016, 01:38:30 pm »
In perfect tabloid fashion one can expect this time in a contentious election cycle (remember Herman Cain), supermarket tabloid The National Enquirer decided to fabricate a sex scandal about Ted Cruz that could be the plot for a sequel to Eyes Wide Shut if it weren't so unbelievable.  In most cases, political scandals like this (they were also behind the Sarah Palin affair/Trig rumors) are only taken seriously by fringe blogs or grandmothers who believe everything 'the papers' tell us. This rumor, fueled by an army of Trump supporters on Twitter, however, is shooting to the top of trending topics.

...but they are missing one thing.

The National Inquirer loves Trump, as much as they loved Obama in 2008 when they went after Palin. This is more than just a passing affection for a liberal who can give them years of trashy headlines. In this case, it is personal.  Donald Trump and National Inquirer CEO David Pecker have been close friends for years. As noted in New York Magazine. http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2015/10/trumps-alliance-with-the-national-enquirer.html

Quote
Trump and Enquirer CEO David Pecker have been friends for years. “They’re very close,” said a source close to the Enquirer. In July 2013, Trump even tweeted that Pecker should become CEO of Time magazine, which at the time was being spun off from its corporate parent, Time Warner. “He’d make it exciting and win awards!”

This isn't the first time that the National Inquirer attempted to help Trump. In October, the Inquirer went after Trump's then main opponent, Ben Carson:

Quote
...the Enquirer published a cover story on Carson headlined “Bungling Surgeon Ben Carson Left Sponge in Patient’s Brain!” The article called Carson a “White House wannabe” and claimed he “brandished a scalpel like a meat cleaver!” It went on to quote angry former patients saying he botched surgeries that left them disfigured and in pain; one patient who sued Carson said he forgot to remove a surgical sponge from her brain after a procedure. “His presidential campaign should be dead on arrival!” Enquirer reporter Sharon Churcher wrote.

The Inquirer even placed the source of the Carson attack directly at the Trump Campaign.

Quote
This person also said that Trump’s campaign was a source for the article: “His campaign provided information that was used,” he explained. A Trump friend said that in the days leading up to the article’s publication Trump was telling people that Carson “had a lot of medical malpractice suits” and “almost killed a guy.”

But before you think this is just the National Inquirer looking for tabloid trash to boost ratings, consider that just a few weeks ago, they took valuable space in their magazine to write a glowing, groveling endorsement of Trump.  The National Enquirer Declares, Trump Must Be President the article started.

You can read the whole endorsement here:
https://www.datalounge.com/thread/16599573-the-national-enquirer-donald-trump-must-be-president-

And just a few weeks before:

As this story is spread, we know there will be more coming- but not about the Cruz affair. What did Trump's camp know, when did they know it, and who is Corey Lewandowski?

Stay tuned..

Donald Trump lands endorsement of The National Enquirer

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has been leading in the polls for months, but he’s just received his first endorsement from a major publication – the infamous tabloid The National Enquirer.

In this stranger-than-fiction presidential race, Trump has been championed by a publication that has recently purported to “out“ a number of celebrities, discovered unsubstantiated cheating scandals, prematurely predicted the imminent deaths of Hillary Clinton, Angelina Jolie, Cher and Oprah Winfrey (just to name a few), claimed repeatedly that President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama were on the brink of divorce, that the Obama daughters were embroiled in a cocaine scandal, and accused comedian Bill Cosby of plotting the murder of his own son....

Trashy Tabloid Trump fits perfectly with a publication like that.

When are real issues going to be discussed?  Seems to me the only thing that is going on here is a pissing match.

Where has that been published? I can't find any news sources on it.

BTW, when is Trump going to start explaining his fetish for underage Filipino boys?

Well, Cruz is out there denying the reports, so I guess you've missed them.

Oh, and your second sentence, if you were going for clever, you missed the mark.  Although it is a rather intriguing insight into your thinking.   :pondering:

National Enquirer Endorses Trump, Calls Rubio ‘Nerdy’

The real estate mogul’s murky, mutually-beneficial relationship with the tabloid’s boss goes back years—and the Enquirer has been vicious to Trump’s political enemies.

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has won the endorsements and fandom of former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Sarah Palin, former heavyweight boxer and convicted rapist Mike Tyson, Ann Coulter, leading conspiracy obsessive Alex Jones, a “pro-rape” blogger, and a porn star called Dick Chibbles.

More recently, Trump has earned the endorsement of the National Enquirer, one of America’s most ubiquitous supermarket tabloids on celebrity gossip and scandal....

Just to point out the Alinsky strategy possibly in this, just like with the 'lyin Ted' line..

Take your opponent's strength and make it a weakness, take your own weakness and project it on your opponent.

If this was orchestrated, it is right out of Alinsky's playbook. Cruz had the reputation for being of high character and his relationship with his wife, very strong. Trump, on the other hand, has a non-hidden reputation of being, at best, a playboy with many mistresses and who trades in wives faster than he trades in jets.

So what does this story do? Right out of Alinsky's playbook- Takes Cruz's strength and turns it into a weakness. Take's Trump's weakness and projects it on Cruz.

OK, maybe something is breaking on this. ... National Enquirer said the story did come from someone in Trump's staff. Various reporters are calling him out on it now. For example, Cheri is with The Hill.
