Three men were killed — including one gunned down in the lobby of a hotel near McCormick Place — and a Loyola University student was among at least 17 other people wounded in shootings across Chicago so far this weekend.

The hotel shooting happened early Saturday at the Hyatt Regency at 2233 S. King Drive.

Courtney Taylor, 25, was part of the melee that broke out in the lobby about 2:20 a.m. when someone pulled out a gun and shot him in the head, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Taylor, of the 6800 block of South Paulina, was dead at the scene, authorities said.
Later Saturday morning, a 22-year-old man was killed in the Homan Square neighborhood on the West Side.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 7 a.m. found Derrius Lares unresponsive with gunshot wounds to the chest in a backyard in the 3300 block of West Polk, authorities said.
Lares was pronounced dead at the scene minutes later. He lived in the 6600 block of South Hoyne.
On Saturday night, two men were shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side.
The men, ages 21 and 26, were sitting in a car parked in the 9600 block of South Calumet about 10:45 p.m. when a gunman got out of a dark-colored car, walked up and started shooting, police said. A friend drove them to Roseland Community Hospital.
The older man, identified as 26-year-old Orlando McArther, was shot in the back of the head and the left arm, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
McArther, of the 9600 block of South Forest, was then taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:10 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.
The younger man, who has documented gang ties, was shot in the buttocks and his condition was stabilized at Roseland, police said.
Friday night, a 19-year-old Loyola University student was critically wounded in a shooting near the Rogers Park neighborhood school.
About 9:15 p.m., she was walking with friends to a store in the 6700 block of North Clark when someone fired shots from a passing vehicle, hitting her in the lower back, police said. She was taken in critical condition to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston.
A gray Nissan Altima was seen speeding away from the scene of the shooting, according to police, who said the woman was not the intended target.
The university confirmed in a statement on their website that the woman is a student and said she was recovering from her injuries Saturday night. Additional shuttle services were being added for students on campus, and counselors were being made available.
The latest nonfatal shooting happened early Sunday about a block away from Navy Pier in the Gold Coast neighborhood.
A 20-year-old woman was riding in the front passenger seat of a vehicle in the 500 block of East Grand when someone started shooting from a vehicle behind them about 12:35 a.m., police said.
The driver took her to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where her condition was stabilized with a gunshot wound to the left calf, police said.
At least 14 other people have been wounded in separate attacks across the city since 6:45 p.m. Friday.

See, gun control laws make everyone safer. :thud: The polticos there apparently haven't heard the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result.  Ah well, it is a democratic stranglehold to begin with.  :doa:
