Quake measuring 6.4 rocks parts of Mexico

Over the last three months we have seen the Bay area of California rocked with over 2000 small quakes. In addition, we have witnessed a major 8.3 quake in Chile, and now Southern Mexico has been rattled by a magnitude-6.4 quake Thursday. All these Earthquakes in addition to 2 major volcanic eruptions in Central America along the ring of fire have followed the massive quake in September that hit Japan.

Experts, including NASA, have predicted that there is a 99 percent chance of a super earthquake hitting along the ring of fire within the next 2 ½ years. We have also seen swarms of quakes striking in areas like Oklahoma and Phoenix that are not part of the ring of fire, but are connected to it and could be a sign of extreme pressure being release throughout the system.

As for this newest one, as of yet, there have been no immediate reports of damage. Authorites said the temblor was felt in the southern states of Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Tabasco and it prompted some tourists and residents to rush out of buildings in the colonial city of Oaxaca. The U.S. Geological Survey initially reported a magnitude of 6.6 for the quake, but later modified the calculation to 6.4. The temblor struck just before 2 p.m. local time (2000 GMT) in an area of Chiapas near the Guatemalan border.

Civil Defense director Ricardo de la Cruz told local media some people suffered panic attacks, but there were no immediate reports of damages or injuries. The epicenter of this quake is almost exactly halfway between the last quake in Chile, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Authorities have said they are expecting a quake of some size, at least a 5.0, to hit the United States west coast in the next three months.

Wow!  Since fracking is the only thing that can cause earth quakes (and earth quacks), I didn't realize fracking was so wide spread. :woohoo:
