Meet The Peer 2 Peer Lending Website That Funded The San Bernardino Shooters

Quote
Over the course of the past nine months or so, we’ve documented the rise of online P2P lending.

Back in May, for instance, we highlighted a Bloomberg piece which suggested the volume of P2P loans is set to hit nearly $80 billion in 2015. “LendingClub, the No. 1 player worldwide, is trading at a market value of about $7 billion even though it lost $33 million last year,” Bloomberg said, before warning that “in a flashback to the subprime mortgage boom, P2P startups have begun bundling and selling off loans through securitizations.”

Well of course they have. When it comes to new, potentially lucrative markets, Wall Street is a bit like Christopher Walken’s character Frank White from the 1990 cult classic “King Of New York”: “Nothing goes down unless I’m involved.” The more demand there is for P2P loans to securitize, the lower will be P2P lenders’ underwriting standards creating a repeat of the originate to sell dynamic that helped create the housing bubble and is now playing out across the auto loan space. But when it comes to P2P loans, there’s another problem. P2P loans create the conditions whereby borrowers can refi high-interest debt via personal loans, transferring credit risk from large financial institutions to private lenders in the process. It’s not entirely clear what the implications of that shift might ultimately be, especially if the market continues to grow

San Bernardino shooters planned bigger attack, investigators believe
FBI dive teams searches for digital footprint of San Bernardino shooters

An examination of digital equipment recovered from the home of the couple who killed 14 people in San Bernardino last week has led FBI investigators to believe the shooters were planning an even larger assault, according to federal government sources.

Investigators on Thursday continued to search for digital footprints left by Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, scouring a downtown San Bernardino lake for electronic items, including a hard drive that the couple was hoping to destroy, sources told The Times.

FBI agents will probably spend days searching Seccombe Lake and canvassing the neighborhood for clues after receiving a tip that the couple may have visited the area on the day of the attack, according to David Bowdich, assistant special agent in charge of the FBI's Los Angeles field office.

Farook and Malik were in the final planning stages of an assault on a location or building that housed a lot more people than the Inland Regional Center, possibly a nearby school or college, according to federal sources familiar with the widening investigation.

Investigators have based that conclusion on evidence left behind on Farook and Malik's computers and digital devices, not all of which the couple were able to destroy before they were killed in a firefight with police, the sources said.

Images of San Bernardino-area schools were found on a cellphone belonging to Farook, according to a law enforcement source. But the source cautioned that Farook may have had a legitimate reason to have the images because his work as a county health inspector involved checking on school dining facilities.

On Thursday, one of the federal government sources told The Times that Farook asked his friend and neighbor, Enrique Marquez, to buy two military-style rifles used in the attacks because he feared he "wouldn't pass a background check" if he attempted to acquire the weapons on his own. The rifles were bought at a local gun store, the source said.

The timing of the rifle purchases is significant to FBI investigators. Another federal government source previously told The Times that Farook may have been considering a separate terror plot in 2011 or 2012.

Farook was self-radicalizing around that time, FBI Director James Comey said, and met Malik soon after, eventually escorting her to the United States. Farook was a practicing Muslim. Marquez converted to Islam around the time he purchased the weapons, sources have told The Times.

FBI agents believe Farook abandoned his plans to launch the earlier attack after a law enforcement task force arrested three men in Chino in November 2012. The men were later convicted of charges related to providing material support to terrorists and plotting to kill Americans in Afghanistan. A fourth man arrested in Afghanistan also was convicted in the scheme.

Bowdich said federal agents are investigating whether the men had ties to Farook.

Marquez has emerged as a central figure in the investigation. The FBI had been conducting interviews with 24-year-old, who checked himself into a mental health facility after the attacks.

The former Wal-Mart security guard has waived his Miranda rights and cooperated with the inquiry, and it was Marquez who told FBI agents about Farook's earlier plans, according to one of the government sources, who also requested anonymity.

Officials continue to scour the backgrounds of the shooters who killed 14 people and injured 21 in San Bernardino.

"They were talking generally about something, but I don't think it made it to anything specific," one of the sources said of the earlier plot. "I don't think it got to a time or a place."

The source said it remains unclear whether Marquez had any involvement in the planning of the shooting or had any prior knowledge that an attack was pending.

Marquez, a cycling enthusiast who wanted to join the U.S. Navy, was a longtime friend and neighbor of Farook. He also married the sister of Farook's sister-in-law last year, although the circumstances of the union are now under investigation, a government official previously told The Times.

There was no paperwork transferring ownership of the assault rifles from Marquez to Farook, as required by California law, government officials told The Times.

Hours after the shooting, Marquez posted a cryptic message on his Facebook page.

"I'm. Very sorry sguys," the message read. "It was a pleasure."

Bowdich on Thursday declined to answer questions about Marquez, who has not been charged with a crime.

Marquez told FBI agents that the Facebook post has been "misunderstood," according to one of the government sources. Agents are concerned that Marquez's mental and emotional state may affect what he has been telling interrogators, the source said.

While Marquez has spoken to agents about his ties to Farook, federal officials are still working to verify the information he has provided, the source said.

Marquez's mother, Armida Chacon, addressed reporters on Thursday from her Tomlinson Avenue home in Riverside, sobbing as she said she hadn't been in contact with her son since the day of the massacre.

"I don't know how this happened.... My world is upside-down," she said. "My life changed Wednesday."

Chacon was outside with one of her sons, cleaning up the broken glass and twisted panels of their garage door. The damage occurred when federal agents raided the stucco home over the weekend.

As she combed through the wreckage of the garage door, Chacon eventually turned to the reporters camped out on the street and agreed to an off-camera interview.

Marquez was his mother's "right hand at home," helping take care of his brothers, she said.

She said her son loved to hang out with friends and go to parties.

"My son is a good person," she said.

When asked about Farook, Chacon said her son was friends with him and "nothing more."

Chacon said she was overwhelmed by news of the shooting and had spent the last several days crying inside her home.
See the most-read stories this hour >>

"I want this to stop," she said.

After speaking to reporters for about 10 minutes, Chacon turned and walked back inside the house.

She was still crying.

Why the Hell do we treat (in the media) people like this Chacon woman like a victim? Her "good person" got weapons for jihadi mass murderers. I'll save my sympathy for real victims.

San Bernardino divers reportedly pull object from water in evidence search

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/12/11/san-bernardino-divers-return-to-lake-seeking-electronic-evidence/?intcmp=hpbt2

Quote
An FBI dive team reportedly pulled an object from a San Bernardino lake Friday, seeking evidence pinpointing the motive and history of the attackers who killed more than a dozen people during a holiday party.

One diver handed the unknown item to an official wearing gloves, who put the object in a plastic bag, the Press-Enterprise reports.

Investigators are looking for a hard drive that may have been dumped in the lake, a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation told The Associated Press. David Bowdich, chief of the FBI's Los Angeles office, said investigative leads indicated the shooters had been in the area the day of the massacre and said the search of the lake could take days.

Fox News has learned that in 2012, one of the gunmen, Syed Farook, conspired with former neighbor Enrique Marquez, the man who purchased the rifles used in the deadly attack in San Bernardino on Dec. 2. The plot would have targeted the Los Angeles area.

Unwanted Terrorist Body of Tashfeen Malik Remains unclaimed
Rlgrimes 12/12/2015

No one wants the responsibility of burying Tashfeen Malik, shown her with husband Syed Farook.

Last week Tashfeen Malik tried to win her way to Paradise by helping her partner in crime, Syed Farook murder 14 innocent persons at a Christmas Party and Wound another 22 in San Bernardino. But the real horror in that act was not the killing, or the wounding, it was the fact that these were the very same people that had given her and her Muslim Terrorist husband a baby shower just a few weeks before.

Well now it appears that the young woman at least in theory, will be denied her place in Islam’s version of heaven that she sold her soul to obtain. Why? Because Islamic law requires that the body be buried within 24 hours of death. Usually as good Christians, we try to accommodate that requirement even in the case of terrorist acts. But in Tashfeen’s case, it really doesn’t seem to matter.

You see, no one wants her body, not that I blame them, but she has been on a slab in the county morgue freezer just waiting for someone to claim the remains now for over a week, and no one has stepped forward. As a result, it is likely that she could get the unceremonious – and un-Islamic – funeral she deserves. Even local Muslim leaders don’t want anything to do with her. Neither has her husband’s family stepped forward to claim the body of the mother of their grandchild. So there she lays, on a cold metal slab in freezer

Yes, we have learned that the bullet-riddled body of Tashfeen Malik is still at the San Bernardino County morgue, along with that of her husband, Syed Rizwan Farook. But while his remains are expected to soon be released to his family, community and mosque leaders are treating her corpse like a hot potato. “No one wants to claim her and no one wants to do the funeral,” a well-placed source within the Muslim community told FoxNews.com.  “They are all waiting for someone else to be the one to take care of this part of it.”

Trying to do the right thing, and possibly even speeding her soul on the way to hell, local political and religious leaders have been trying to get someone to agree to perform a burial for Malik in adherence with Islamic tradition. But as of now, that just doesn’t seem to be going to happen, because so far no one wants to take on the controversial duties. Malik, the “devout Muslim wife,” did not worship at local mosques. In addition, she was not known in the Muslim community before she and her husband launched their murder spree at the Inland Regional Center Christmas Party Dec. 2.

Malik has no known family in the country and appears to have little to no relationship with relatives abroad. Although her family reportedly lives in Saudi Arabia, a spokesperson for the Kingdom’s embassy in Washington said the Saudis take no responsibility for her funeral. Likewise, officials in her native Pakistan said they have received no transport requests and have no plans to step up.

When asked if it would underwrite Malik’s funeral, Council on American-Islamic Relations, the Muslim group which has represented Farook’s family since the attack, declined an answer responding only with a detailed description of an Islamic burial. So, adding insult to injury, it appears that if no one steps up, she will likely be cremated at taxpayers’ expense, a fate forbidden by Islamic law for even the most reviled radical killers.

Respect for the dead is so important to Muslims that Daniel Akbari, a certified Sharia lawyer and Islamic expert for the Supreme Court of Iran, predicted Malik will eventually get a religious-adherent sendoff. “Since it is obligatory to bury a Muslim’s dead body, many Islamic institutions will probably be willing to do the burial,” he said. “Some might be cautious and wait to see if others do the job. But what is certain is that Farook and his wife will be buried in an Islamic way.”

Paying for the funeral of Malik would be a public relations disaster for anyone, said local attorney Troy Slaten, who predicted taxpayers will foot the bill for a cremation. “If nobody claims a body, it is turned over to the public administrator, who will handle it civilly and not religiously,” said local attorney Troy Slaten. “Cremation is usually standard because it’s the cheapest option.”

Attorney David Wohl agreed. “The state is not going to care about religious tradition,” Wohl said. “She was a terrorist.”

Report: Jihadi Bride Passed 3 Visa Background Checks Despite Online Posts About Violent Jihad

Posted By Chuck Ross On 4:21 PM 12/12/2015 In | No Comments

Tashfeen Malik, the Pakistani woman who killed 14 people with her husband in San Bernardino earlier this month, openly advocated violent jihad on her social media accounts before coming to the U.S., but government officials approved her fiancee visa anyway, The New York Times reports.

Law enforcement officials discovered the posts, according to The Times. Had authorities found the messages when Malik applied last year for a K-1 fiancee visa to come to the U.S. with her husband, Syed Farook, she likely would not have been approved for entry. But, as The Times notes, immigration officials rarely check applicants’ social media posts for red flags. And female applicants are generally subject to less scrutiny than male applicants.

As one former senior Homeland Security Investigations officials told The Times, visa applicants’ identities are run against federal terror watch list databases, and if the person is not flagged during that process, they are usually not subject to further investigation.

Malik, who was born in Pakistan but grew up in Saudi Arabia, went through three separate screenings before being granted a green card. That despite the reportedly inflammatory social media posts and her reported association with radical elements as a student in Pakistan.

The first screening Malik went through was a criminal background and national security database check conducted by the Department of Homeland Security. The State Department conducted the second check, when the agency compared her fingerprints against national security databases. Lastly, she was interviewed by officials in the U.S. when she applied for her green card after marrying Farook.

The 29-year-old Malik also went through two in-person interviews, The Times reported — one with a consular officer in Pakistan and the other with an immigration officer in the U.S. during the green card application process.

Farook, who was born in Chicago and is of Pakistani descent, was also vetted by the feds. His background reportedly came back clean as well, as he was not on federal terror watch lists or a no-fly list.

That, too, has become a cause of concern. Farook was reportedly in the same social circle as one of four men arrested near San Bernardino in 2012 for plotting to recruit al-Qaeda fighters. It is still unclear how close Farook was to the would-be recruiter, who was recently sentenced to 25 years in prison for providing material support to terrorists.

Much evidence of incompetence, careless disregard of Americans safety by the Obama-Hillary Clinton administration.

Democrats cannot be trusted with national or domestic security. A fruitful campaign theme, for the GOP next November.
