That statement’s intent was clear – Barack Obama wants to trample upon the Second Amendment and he is more than willing to use tragedy in order to accomplish that goal. His prepared rant yesterday as he looked out at a nation he so clearly despises attempted to state that yet more gun laws would prevent the acts of the mentally disturbed from doing others harm. It was a false premise based less on fact and far more on yet more presidential demagoguery from a man who appears to know how to do nothing else and it was spoken (yet again) before Mr. Obama had a clear grasp of the facts surrounding the Oregon college campus shooting.
Shame on him.
Here is a list of the five most violent cities in America:
New Jersey has among the toughest gun regulations in the entire country. The same for Pennsylvania which has a rigorous background check system in place rated “tougher than most” by the Brady Center and the city of Chester initiated even further restrictions in 2010 which appears to have done little to prevent them from being rated the #2 most violent city in America five years later.
As for Detroit, ranked the third most violent city, check out this statement from a 2013 policy.mic report:
“Note that each and every legal gun buyer in Michigan, and particularly Detroit, must be approved by the local police at least twice each and every time they purchase a gun and undergo a background check by the federal government.
As a result, Detroit has the second highest murder rate in the nation and is considered by many to be the most dangerous city in which to live in the United States. Simply put, gun control, as a means of controlling crime and protecting law abiding citizens, is a dismal failure.”
And what is happening in Detroit is happening in its close neighbor, Saginaw.
As for Oakland, California, it is a city which has in the last decade continued to try and go above and beyond the state’s already prohibitive gun laws. The result shows those gun restrictions to be an abject failure as the city’s violence remains among the highest in the nation.
Barack Obama ignores the above facts though, choosing far more generalized statistics to assert that more gun laws are needed to curb violence – as if criminals intent on breaking the law will suddenly follow them because a new law was passed.
If this president were more honest, or intelligent, he would admit and/or realize that the #1 determinant of violence is economics and that more than anything has been the impetus for the rise in violent crime in America during his tenure as president. The Obama economy is quite literally, killing people.
Why is it this man is so quick to get himself in front of the cameras when he believes there to be a story that fits with his agenda, but then is silent during other tragedies? You want to claim “facts”, Mr. Obama? How about this chart that outlines the amount of crimes being committed by illegal aliens – crimes YOUR administration continues to advocate via it’s refusal to enforce U.S. immigration policy:
