Alert to be wary. A lot of people are posting images on Facebook of forum posts they claim is of the shooter warning people yesterday. Those images are from 4Chan and they pull this crap all the time. That is most likely faked images or faked dates. 4Chan pulls stuff like this pretty much every time a big event happens.

Or he is just getting ahead of the story. Creating the perception in people's minds before it is replaced. The first perception people have is generally hard to change. After the first perception, confirmation bias plays a part.

Indeed.

It's interesting that we know nothing about the shooter. Maybe I'm mistaken, but don't we usually have an identity by this point? At least a name, sex, race?

I came across a post from a person I know to be a 4chan user. He saw the post in question yesterday. He says he sees this kind of stuff all the time but the screenshot/thread appears to be legit this time.

I don't believe a thing that comes out of that site. These type of things pop up every time there is a shooting or other event. That's what they do.

Perhaps they're trying to build a narrative for how this guy violated Oregon's gun control laws, in order to avoid the inference that the laws made people less safe, not more safe.

Or perhaps the Sheriff is doing an information lock-down so the investigation can be done in peace, without reporters all over the place?

There is a name for the shooter floating around - not posting it as it could be the usual social media BS.
