That is indeed an excellent piece and is must reading for GOPB'ers.

I brought up the reader comments and this was the first (emphasis added by me):

I guess a party too stupid to act to preserve itself deserves to become insignificant, but it is the highest form of betrayal that it takes the entire country with it.

This will be quite an event, won't it?  Fox News must be elated and I completely believe they will be fair, or they will make very effort to be, at least. 

Someone will emerge from tonite as the solid #2.  Watch for Jeb or Rubio to score.  Perhaps Walker.  Cruz?  I just don't know about him.  He has become a polarized, even caricaturized figure, it seems to me.  This has become, after all, a Prom King selection type process.  He and Paul will be most willing to cross sabers with Trump in this first round.  Kasich will get hometown cheers but tread water, at best.  Carson will quietly be there.

Any interest in Round #1?  Perry and Jindal will have best chance to leapfrog to next tier, I think.  Fiorina?  Maybe, but I doubt it.

My money for the "Winner" tonite?  Rubio.  His comforting message delivery will do it.
